Job Title: Fund Manager
Job Purpose:
The Fund Manager is responsible for managing the insurance companys investment portfolios to maximize risk-adjusted returns while ensuring absolute alignment with regulatory guidelines and liquidity requirements. The role involves formulating investment strategies, conducting deep market research, overseeing asset allocation, and mitigating portfolio risk to safeguard policyholder and shareholder wealth.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Portfolio & Investment Management:
- Strategy Execution: Formulate and execute short-term and long-term investment strategies for assigned funds (Equity, Fixed Income, or Balanced) to outperform respective benchmarks and peers.
- Asset Allocation: Manage portfolio construction in consonance with the companys Investment Policy Statement (IPS) and Asset-Liability Management (ALM) framework.
- Deal Sourcing & Execution: Identify lucrative investment opportunities through rigorous financial analysis, valuation models, and macroeconomic assessment. Execute trades efficiently to optimize entry and exit points.
2. Risk Management & Governance:
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure 100% adherence to external statutory guidelines (e.g., investment limits, exposure ceilings, and asset quality mandates) as well as internal risk matrices.
- Risk Mitigation: Actively monitor portfolio volatility, credit risk, interest rate risk, and liquidity positions. Implement hedging strategies where necessary to shield funds from market downturns.
- Credit & Equity Research: Track the operational and financial health of portfolio companies. Regularly engage with senior management of investee companies, industry experts, and rating agencies.
3. Stakeholder Management & Reporting:
- Committee Presentations: Present periodic market outlooks, fund performance metrics, and portfolio risk analyses to the Investment Committee, Chief Investment Officer (CIO), and Board.
- Performance Attribution: Conduct thorough performance attribution analysis against benchmarks to isolate drivers of return.
- Marketing & Communication: Partner with the marketing and product teams to provide technical investment insights for fund factsheets, customer communications, and sales pitches.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
- Fund Performance: Consistent top-quartile performance against peers and relevant market benchmarks over rolling 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year horizons.
- Regulatory Compliance: Zero instances of compliance or statutory investment guideline breaches.
- Alpha Generation: Maximizing risk-adjusted returns (Sharpe Ratio, Information Ratio) within assigned risk budgets.
- Turnaround Time (TAT): Efficient turnaround on investment execution and investment research notes.
Education & Experience Requirements:
- Qualifications: Chartered Accountant (CA), MBA in Finance from a premier institution, or a Masters degree in Economics/Finance. CFA charterholders are highly preferred.
- Experience: 5 to 10 years of solid experience in investment management, equity/fixed-income research, or treasury operations. Prior independent fund management experience handling large Asset Under Management (AUM) sizes is an advantage.
- Tools & Technology: Proficient in financial market terminals like Bloomberg, Reuters/Cogencis, and advanced financial modeling tools (Excel, Python, or Power BI).
Required Competencies & Skills:
- Deep understanding of macroeconomic variables, monetary policy, and corporate financial statements.
- Strong conviction backed by data-driven analytical capability.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and presentation skills for executive-level reporting.
- Ability to work cohesively under tight market hours and high-pressure decision-making windows.
