The ideal candidate brings deep controllership expertise, a strong understanding of inventory-intensive businesses, and the ability to translate financial data into operational accountability and profitable growth.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Financial Reporting, Governance & Compliance:
- Own monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closures, ensuring accurate and timely P&L, Balance Sheet, cash flow statements, and supporting schedules.
- Establish standardised financial reporting across business lines, product categories, sales channels, locations, and legal entities.
- Deliver business-line and channel-level profitability reports, providing leadership with actionable insights into financial performance and key business drivers.
- Ensure statutory and regulatory compliance, including GST, TDS, income tax, Companies Act, and applicable export-related requirements.
- Oversee export documentation, foreign currency transactions, export receivables, realisation tracking, and applicable GST and customs compliance.
- Maintain balance sheet integrity through reconciliations, ageing reviews, provisions, accruals, and periodic balance substantiation.
- Lead statutory and internal audits, resolve audit observations, and strengthen accounting policies, SOPs, approval matrices, and financial governance.
- Ensure robust accounting, reconciliation, and reporting for intercompany transactions and multi-entity operations, where applicable.
- Drive cash-flow forecasting and working capital management, with regular reviews of inventory investment, receivables, payables, and cash-conversion efficiency.
2. Cost Accounting, Product Costing & Margin Management:
- Establish end-to-end costing across manufacturing, packaging, distribution, and sales.
- Develop robust product costing methodologies covering raw materials, labour, processing costs, factory overheads, packaging, wastage, and yield losses.
- Ensure accurate cost accumulation and allocation across raw materials, intermediate products, WIP, and finished goods.
- Monitor batch-level costs, production yields, conversion costs, and manufacturing variances to identify cost leakages and improve efficiency.
- Drive gross and contribution margin visibility across retail, website, Amazon, quick commerce, B2B, and exports.
- Analyse channel-specific costs, including commissions, fulfilment, logistics, discounts, promotions, payment gateway charges, and other selling expenses.
- Track raw material price movements, product mix, price-volume-mix variances, and channel economics; investigate margin deviations and drive corrective actions.
- Partner with manufacturing, procurement, supply chain, sales, and retail teams to optimise costs and protect profitability.
- Ensure pricing, discounting, customer contracts, and channel expansion decisions are backed by reliable product- and channel-level profitability analysis.
3. Inventory Management & Internal Controls:
- Own inventory controls across ingredients, packaging, WIP, semi-finished goods, finished goods, and merchandise.
- Ensure accurate inventory valuation, cost allocation, write-downs, and COGS recognition in line with applicable accounting standards.
- Reconcile physical stock with production records, warehouse systems, POS, operational platforms, and the general ledger.
- Enforce controls across procurement, goods receipts, material issues, production consumption, yield recording, stock transfers, dispatches, and sales returns.
- Establish batch-level traceability from raw material consumption through production, process losses, and finished goods.
- Drive cycle counts, physical stock audits, inventory confirmations, variance investigations, and corrective actions across factories, warehouses, and retail locations.
- Monitor inventory ageing, slow-moving stock, shelf-life exposure, damage, production losses, and obsolescence provisions.
- Strengthen controls over goods in transit, export consignments, third-party logistics, and e-commerce fulfilment inventory.
- Ensure accurate inventory and COGS cut-off across channels and reporting periods, with clear accountability for stock discrepancies, unexplained losses, and control deviations.
4. Business-Line Controllership:
- Manufacturing: Track product and batch costing, production yields, capacity utilisation, material consumption, and manufacturing variances.
- Retail Boutiques: Own store-level P&Ls, POS and payment reconciliations, operating costs, store profitability, and inventory controls.
- E-commerce - Website, Amazon & Quick Commerce: Reconcile orders, settlements, commissions, returns, and receivables; track channel-level contribution margins.
- B2B - HoReCa & Institutional Customers: Monitor customer profitability, pricing, credit limits, receivables, collections, and trade schemes.
5. ERP, Systems & Process Excellence:
- Maximise Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central utilisation for financial accounting, product costing, inventory valuation, and management reporting.
- Strengthen integration and reconciliation across ERP, manufacturing, inventory, POS, e-commerce, marketplace, and payment systems.
- Establish financial dimensions and reporting structures across business lines, product categories, sales channels, locations, and legal entities.
- Implement system-driven controls, approval workflows, transaction validations, and audit trails across critical processes.
- Standardise intercompany accounting, reconciliations, and reporting, where applicable.
- Drive automation, reduce manual workarounds, and improve data integrity, process efficiency, and reporting reliability.
6. Business Partnering, Performance Management & Team Leadership:
- Partner with leadership, factory, procurement, supply chain, and commercial teams to translate operational metrics into financial insights, optimise resource utilisation, improve working capital, and drive profitable growth.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and business performance reviews across business lines and channels.
- Establish financial KPIs and accountability for manufacturing costs, inventory losses, store profitability, channel contribution, and receivables.
- Support pricing, promotions, customer credit, channel expansion, and other commercial decisions through robust financial analysis.
- Build and develop a high-performing finance team with clear ownership, review mechanisms, and performance standards.
- Proactively address financial and operational control gaps, fostering a culture of accountability, transparency, financial discipline, and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Chartered Accountant (CA) with 8 - 10 years of relevant experience in financial controllership.
- Proven experience in multi-location, inventory-intensive businesses, preferably FMCG, premium food manufacturing, F&B, multi-unit retail, hospitality, or consumer brands.
- Strong expertise in product costing, manufacturing accounting, inventory valuation, COGS, gross margin, and product/channel profitability analysis.
- Hands-on experience in financial closures, financial statement preparation, balance sheet reconciliations, statutory compliance, and audits.
- Demonstrated ability to establish inventory controls across raw materials, WIP, finished goods, warehouses, and retail locations.
- Understanding of multi-channel business economics across retail, e-commerce, quick commerce, B2B, and/or exports.
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems; Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central experience is preferred. Strong Excel skills and financial reporting capabilities are essential.
- Working knowledge of GST, export compliance, foreign currency transactions, and multi-entity accounting.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and management reporting skills, with a keen eye for cost leakages and process improvements.
The Ideal Candidate:
We are looking for a finance professional who understands that effective financial control goes beyond closing the books. It means knowing where every unit of inventory sits, what every product truly costs, how every channel earns its margin, and where value is being created or lost.
If you bring strong controllership expertise, an operational mindset, and the ambition to help build a distinctive, fast-growing consumer brand, we would love to hear from you.
