Financial Controller

About the Role:


We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Financial Controller to support our Controller/AVP of Finance in leading financial operations, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. This role will be instrumental in guiding the finance team, overseeing general ledger activities, and enhancing financial decision-making across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Oversight & Leadership:

- Support the Controller/AVP of Finance in managing the performance and effectiveness of the finance team.

- Provide direction, supervision, and review of the workgroups activities.

- Oversee and mentor staff accountants, ensuring accurate and timely output.

Accounting Operations:

- Maintain and oversee multiple general ledgers.

- Review and approve monthly journal entries, account analyses, and reconciliations to ensure accuracy in closing financial periods.

- Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of all financial processes and reports.

Reporting & Analysis:

- Review actual-to-budget variance reports and provide insights to support operational decision-making.

- Prepare and review monthly reports on key financial indicators and operational statistics.

- Assist with responding to financial information requests from leadership and stakeholders.

Compliance & Auditing:

- Review monthly reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts with proper documentation.

- Coordinate the preparation and filing of annual personal property tax and Sales & Use tax returns.

- Conduct internal compliance audits and maintain proper documentation to support findings.

- Ensure adherence to financial policies, internal controls, and regulatory standards.

Budgeting & Forecasting:

- Participate in the planning, development, and detailed review of annual operating budgets and performance forecasts.

Process Improvement & Documentation:

- Contribute to the development and implementation of departmental accounting procedures and internal standards.

- Continuously evaluate processes for efficiency and effectiveness and recommend improvements.

Stakeholder Engagement:

- Coordinate the distribution of monthly financial reports to department heads and hospital administrators.

Professionalism & Ethics:

- Uphold the organizations Code of Conduct, Mission, and Values.

- Maintain confidentiality and safeguard sensitive financial information.

- Engage in ongoing professional development to remain current with industry trends and financial regulations.

Qualifications:

- Bachelors/Masters' degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Masters or CPA preferred).

- Minimum of 5 to 7 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, preferably in a healthcare or corporate environment.

- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.

- Experience in general ledger management, financial statement preparation, and audit processes.

- Proficient in financial software systems and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).

- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

- Strong leadership, communication, and team management abilities.
