Position: Financial Controller
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Business Unit: Global Finance & Accounting (GFA)
Region: APAC Region
JOB PURPOSE:
- To oversee all accounting operations, ensures financial reporting accuracy and compliance, and provides strategic financial analysis to guide business decisions.
- Key responsibilities often include a specific focus on project-based metrics like margin and cost analysis.
JOB DUTIES:
- Overseeing all accounting and financial reporting, managing budgets and forecasts, and ensuring compliance with Indian financial regulations and tax laws like GST and TDS.
- Duties include managing internal controls, handling audits, and providing financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.
- Also supervise accounting staff and responsible for areas such as accounts payable, accounts receivable.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting and Statement Preparation:
- Overseeing the entire financial reporting cycle, including the month-end and year-end close processes, and preparing accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, such as income statements and balance sheets.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Coordinating and directing the preparation of the company's operating budgets and financial forecasts, tracking performance against these benchmarks, and reporting significant variances to management.
Internal Controls and Risk Management:
- Designing, implementing, and monitoring robust internal controls and policies to safeguard company assets, mitigate financial risks (such as fraud), and ensure process efficiency.
Compliance and Audits:
- Ensuring adherence to all accounting standards (IND AS/ IFRS), tax laws, and regulatory requirements.
- This includes managing internal and external audits and serving as the primary liaison for auditors and regulatory bodies.
Cash Flow and Treasury Management:
- Monitoring daily cash inflows and outflows, optimizing cash flow strategies, managing working capital, and overseeing debt management and banking relationships.
Accounts Management:
- Supervising the operations of accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll functions.
Financial Analysis and Strategy:
- Translating complex financial data into actionable insights for leadership.
- This involves conducting analyses to identify cost savings, improve operational efficiency, and support strategic decision-making and business growth initiatives.
- Leading, Managing and building a team.
Skills Required:
Engineering Services Industry Specific skill:
- Project Costing and Margin Analysis: Implementing and maintaining robust cost accounting systems to accurately track and manage project-specific costs and profitability.
- Supporting Project Managers: Collaborating closely with project managers to understand the financial implications of specific initiatives and ensuring that project tracking aligns with financial reporting.
- Industry-Specific Metrics: Monitoring Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) relevant to the engineering sector, such as project profitability and resource allocation efficiency, to provide informed guidance to senior leadership.
Skills Required:
- Leadership and Communication: Excellent communication skills to present financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders, and strong leadership skills to guide and mentor the accounting team.
- Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of accounting principles (IND AS), financial modelling, budgeting software (ERP systems), and data analytics tools.
- Analytical Skills: The ability to analyse complex financial data and trends to make informed decisions and solve problems effectively
- Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and resolve issues and make decisions quickly and decisively
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to develop and implement long-term strategies and plans
- Industry Knowledge: Stay up to date with emerging changes and challenges
BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:
- Generally, requires a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field,
- Professional certifications like Chartered Accountant (CA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) will be an advantage or a MBA or master's degree in finance/accounting.
- Incumbents have usually gained 12+ years of experience and have exhibited ability to work in a dynamic work environment.
