
Job Title: Power Sector Expert - Investment Promotion Project
Location: Lucknow
Project Context:
EY is supporting Government of Uttar Pradesh, to accelerate industrial development and attract domestic and global investments across key infrastructure and manufacturing sectors. Renewable Energy and Biofuels form a foundational enabler for industrial growth, sustainability, and ease of doing business.
To strengthen sector-focused investment facilitation, EY seeks a Renewable Energy Sector Expert who will work closely with State departments and agencies to promote investments across conventional power, renewable energy, energy storage, green fuels, and gas infrastructure, while supporting policy design, project structuring, and investor engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Sector Strategy & Investment Promotion:
1. Lead investment promotion strategy for the Renewable Energy sector, covering:
(a) Renewable energy (Solar, Wind, Small & Large Hydro)
(b) Bioenergy including Compressed Biogas (CBG)
(c) Green Hydrogen & derivatives
2. Identify priority sub-sectors, mature projects, and policy levers to position Uttar Pradesh as a competitive renewable energy investment destination.
3. Track national and global investment trends in energy transition, grid modernization, storage, and clean fuels.
Investor Outreach & Engagement:
1. Proactively engage with power developers, IPPs, EPC players, gas companies, PSUs, clean energy investors, and global funds.
2. Support investor onboarding by facilitating: Site identification, Inter-departmental approvals, Commercial and policy clarifications.
3. Coordinate roadshows, B2G/B2B meetings, investor roundtables, and energy-focused investment summits.
4. Act as the sector SPOC for large anchor investors and expansion projects.
Policy Advisory & Regulatory Support:
1. Provide inputs for policy formulation, regulatory simplification, and sector-specific reforms to enhance competitiveness.
2. Benchmark UP's power and energy policies against leading Indian states and global best practices.
3. Support regulatory simplification and alignment with central frameworks (MNRE, MoP, NITI Aayog, PNGRB, CEA).
Project Conceptualization & Structuring:
1. Identify, conceptualize, and structure bankable energy projects, including:
(a) Solar parks & RE clusters
(b) Hydro & PSP developments
(c) CBG plants linked to agri-waste
(d) Green hydrogen hubs
Research & Reporting:
1. Prepare sector notes, investment pitches, detailed project profiles, and cabinet-grade briefing notes.
2. Develop MIS dashboards tracking investment pipeline, investor interactions, and project progress.
3. Support media briefs, investor communication materials, and national/global marketing campaigns.
Coordination & Reporting:
1. Liaise with Government departments, industry chambers, and other stakeholders for smooth facilitation of investments.
2. Provide regular updates, progress reports, and MIS inputs for project monitoring.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education:
Master's degree (strongly preferred) in one or more of the following:
(a) Power Systems / Energy Systems Engineering
(b) Renewable Energy / Sustainable Energy
(c) Infrastructure Planning
(d) Public Policy / Energy Economics
(e) MBA / PGDM (Infrastructure, Energy, Strategy, Finance)
- Experience:
- 8-15 years of post- qualification experience with significant exposure to the power and energy sector, including at least one of the following:
(a) Investment promotion agencies
(b) Management consulting / Big 4 advisory
(c) Power utilities, IPPs, RE developers, gas companies
- Demonstrated experience in one or more of these areas:
(a) Power sector project development or advisory
(b) Renewable energy or storage projects
(c) Gas infrastructure / CGD ecosystems
(d) Policy advisory or regulatory support
(e) Government-facing roles or public sector engagements
- Proven capability to engage senior government officials, CXOs, investors, and developers.
- Prior experience in state or central government projects, investment facilitation, or policy design is highly desirable.
