IWWAGE- Executive Director at IFMR Lead Organization: INITIATIVE FOR WHAT WORKS TO ADVANCE WOMEN AND GIRLS IN THE ECONOMY Job Title: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Reports to: STEERING COMMITTEE OF INITIATIVE Location: NEW DELHI Introduction: Initiative for What Works to Advance Women and Girls in Economy- is an evidence-generation to action-use program that aims at building on existing research and generating new evidence on women's economic empowerment. The program is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and is housed within the IFMR ecosystem. Barriers to productive work and asset creation for women include deeply rooted social norms that limit their choices and access to opportunities. These barriers and limited investments curtail women and girls- access to economic assets such as land, credit, and access to labour and markets. This in turn affects their ability to earn income and make decisions. IWWAGE aims at strengthening and informing social as well as economic policies, and solutions that enhance women and girls- economic empowerment. The program strives to understand what works to bridge women's access to decent jobs, entrepreneurial opportunities, accumulate assets, foster effective financial inclusion, and social protection for women. Reason for the hire: Initiative for What Works to Advance Women and Girls in the Economy (- IWWAGE- ) at IFMR LEAD is looking for an Executive Director to lead the initiative. The objective of IWWAGE is to create a platform to promote, synthesize and generate evidence on - what works- for women's economic empowerment. This role combines passion for creating impact, strong research abilities and a collaborative approach to generate, gather, and synthesize evidence on women's economic empowerment. Roles and Responsibilities: - Overall responsibility for the IWWAGE research strategy, vision and planning; - Define areas of research that are instrumental to supporting the IWWAGE long and short term goals; - Conceptualize an integrated research plan, methodologies and relevant collaborations for maximum impact; - Lead a team in advanced analyses through primary and secondary data sets to generate evidence for program and policy direction to influence women's economic empowerment programs at scale - Communicate research through high-impact publications (refereed journals/books/ proceedings) and presentation of research papers at national and international professional meetings, and be recognized as a leading contributor in the field of women empowerment; - Serve as the principal spokesperson of IWWAGE by clearly articulating its broad goals and objectives, and acting as a strong enabling, but objective, voice on key aspects related to women's economic empowerment in India; Programme and Organizational Management: - Identify opportunities to collaborate with international donor agencies or other potential funding sources; - Hire, manage and retain exceptional staff; motivate the team to deliver high quality results and exceed expectations; - Ensure financial and grant management efficiency; Must Haves: - Ph.D in a relevant discipline (e.g. economics, sociology, gender studies, development studies etc.) - Minimum 10 years of relevant work experience involving varied responsibilities in formulating, developing, implementing, managing and delivering evidence based research projects of various levels of complexities. - Deep expertise in gender and any one of the following: Labor Economics, Entrepreneurship, Social Protection, Finance, Development. - Excellent communicator, both written and oral, able to express complex technical issues in plain language - Significant experience in establishing strong relationships with external partners such as, Government, Industry, NGOs, Think tanks and multi-lateral donor organizations Preferable: - Record of publications in high impact peer reviewed journals. - Demonstrated ability to lead a team and a strong understanding of the entire research project development and research management cycle. - Demonstrated relationship management skills at an executive level Third Sector Partners, a leading senior management and board search firm in the Not for Profit sector has been retained for this position.
