Description:
Position: Plant Head
Reporting to: Vice President Operations & SCM (HO)
Location: Kolkata
Key Responsibilities:
1. Plant Operations Management:
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the manufacturing plant, ensuring smooth and efficient production.
- Develop and implement operational strategies to optimize production processes, improve product quality, and reduce costs.
- Manage the production planning and scheduling processes to meet customer demand and delivery deadlines.
- Ensure adherence to all plant KPIs (Key Performance Indicators), including production targets, quality standards, and cost control metrics.
2. Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of managers, supervisors, and plant operators to achieve high levels of performance.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, continuous improvement, and employee engagement.
- Conduct performance reviews, identify training needs, and implement skill development programs.
- Promote safety awareness and ensure compliance with safety standards and protocols.
3. Industrial Relations (IR) & Union Management:
- Maintain harmonious industrial relations through proactive engagement with employees, union representatives, and workmen committees.
- Manage union negotiations, long-term settlements, grievance handling, and resolution of employee issues.
- Ensure compliance with all labour laws, statutory requirements, and government regulations.
- Collaborate with HR and legal teams to address disciplinary matters, domestic inquiries, and workplace conflict management.
- Lead initiatives to strengthen employee communication, morale, and productivity while minimizing IR risks.
4. Quality Control & Assurance:
- Ensure adherence to the highest quality standards in all production processes and materials.
- Implement and monitor quality control systems to meet internal and customer specifications.
- Work closely with the Quality Assurance team to identify issues and initiate corrective actions.
5. Maintenance & Equipment Management:
- Oversee plant maintenance and repair activities, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum equipment reliability.
- Manage preventive and corrective maintenance programs, and work with maintenance teams to ensure equipment is in peak operating condition.
- Coordinate with suppliers for procurement of spare parts and equipment upgrades.
6. Cost Management & Budgeting:
- Develop and manage the plant's operating budget, ensuring cost-effective operations while maintaining high quality.
- Monitor and control production costs, and implement strategies to reduce waste, energy consumption, and operational inefficiencies.
- Analyze cost reports and recommend actions to improve the financial performance of the plant.
7. Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE):
- Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Develop and enforce safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment for all plant personnel.
- Manage risk assessments and implement mitigation measures to reduce plant-related incidents.
8. Continuous Improvement & Innovation:
- Drive initiatives to improve plant efficiency, product quality, and operational effectiveness.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in manufacturing operations.
- Promote the adoption of innovative technologies and methodologies to enhance plant performance.
9. Stakeholder Management:
- Collaborate with senior leadership, supply chain, sales, and other departments to align production objectives with overall business goals.
- Report regularly on plant performance, including production volumes, quality metrics, safety compliance, and cost performance.
Qualifications & Skills:
Educational Background:
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related fields. A Masters degree or MBA is a plus.
Experience:
- Minimum of 15-20 years of experience in plant operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role in the building materials manufacturing industry or a similar sector.
- Proven expertise in Industrial Relations and handling union environments.
- Demonstrated ability in driving operational excellence and continuous improvement.
- Strong experience in managing large-scale manufacturing operations, including production, maintenance, quality control, and HSE compliance.
- Proven track record of driving operational excellence, cost reduction, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Skills:
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a diverse workforce.
- Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical skills.
- In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes, plant safety standards, and quality control systems.
- Proficiency in manufacturing software, ERP systems, and MS Office applications.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization.
