Life Underwriting Consultant

Duties and Responsibilities

- Understand underwriting policies, guidelines, practices, and procedures.

- Evaluate risks by reviewing an individual's medical history, physical condition, occupational hazards, and financial background.

- Determine whether to accept, modify, or decline applications based on risk assessment.

- Communicate underwriting decisions clearly and effectively, both in writing and verbally.

- Champion and influence process improvements while ensuring mortality expectations are met.

- Work efficiently to gather and analyze necessary information for decision-making.

- Handle assigned requests independently with minimal direction.

- Adapt well to ambiguity and changing business requirements.

Qualifications and Skills

- Master's degree (preferred).

- Demonstrated expertise in all aspects of risk selection (medical, non-medical, and financial).

- Strong critical thinking and independent problem-solving skills.

- Positive, inclusive, agile, and collaborative mindset.

- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

- Experience in both term and permanent life insurance underwriting.

- Industry designations (in process or completed), such as LOMA, ALMI, FMLI, ALU, or FALU, are highly desirable.
