
Role Overview:
As an Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for managing the overall software development life cycle of one or more products.
You will work and manage a cross-functional team consisting of Backend Engineers, Frontend Engineers, QA, SDET, Product Managers, Product Designers, Technical Project Managers, Data Scientists, etc.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for mapping business objectives to an optimum engineering structure, including correct estimation of resource allocation.
- Responsible for key technical and product decisions. Provide direction and mentorship to the team. Set up best practices for engineering.
- Work closely with the Product Manager and help them in getting relevant inputs from the engineering team.
- Plan and track the development and release schedules, proactively assess and mitigate risks. Prepare for contingencies and provide visible leadership in crisis.
- Conduct regular 1:1s for performance feedback and lead their appraisals.
- Responsible for driving good coding practices in the team like good quality code, documentation, timely bug fixing, etc.
- Report on the status of development, quality, operations, and system performance to management.
- Create and maintain an open and transparent environment that values speed and innovation, and motivates engineers to build innovative and effective systems rapidly.
Requirements:
- Prior experience of 9 years in developing complex and responsive large-scale products, with at least 2+ years as an Engineering Manager in a product-based company.
- Technically hands-on with at least one compiled language (Java), one dynamic scripting language (e.g. Python, Perl), web technologies (e.g. HTML, CSS, Javascript), and database technologies (SQL & NoSQL).
- Proven experience solving large-scale, complex problems that impact business-scale systems.
- Experience working with high-performance technical teams and the ability to create a culture based on best practices.
- Experience working with Product Managers and UX Designers.
- Excellent people manager. Strong in building relationships and collaborating with others.
- A strong vision and ability to deliver quickly in a B2B or B2C logistics environment.
- Actively leverages AI tools in day-to-day work (BAU) to improve productivity, automation, or decision-making.
