Position Title: IT Manager


Reports To: Chief Business Officer


Employment Type: Full-time


Position Summary:


The IT Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, delivery, and management of the Universitys IT operations and services.


The role ensures reliable technology infrastructure, effective support services, strong cybersecurity practices, and the successful implementation of digital initiatives that enhance teaching, learning, research, and administrative functions.


The IT Manager provides leadership to the IT team, manages vendor relationships, supports digital transformation, and ensures that all IT services align with institutional priorities and sector best practices.


Accountabilities:


- Oversee the daily operation of campus IT systems, networks, servers, and telecommunications.


- Ensure high availability, performance, and security of infrastructure and cloud-based environments.


- Implement and maintain backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity plans.


- Monitor system performance, resolve incidents, and lead improvement initiatives.


- Manage helpdesk and user support services to ensure timely, high-quality assistance for staff and students.


- Develop and enforce service-level standards and performance indicators.


- Ensure effective support for classrooms, labs, AV systems, and teaching technologies.


- Implement user-facing IT communications on outages, upgrades, and new services.


- Oversee cybersecurity strategies, threat monitoring, and risk mitigation activities.


- Ensure compliance with University policies, privacy regulations, and data-protection standards.


- Coordinate security training and awareness programs for staff and students.


- Respond to cybersecurity incidents and coordinate remediation.


- Oversee administration of core systems such as LMS, SIS/Student Information Systems, ERP platforms, email, identity management, and collaboration tools.


- Ensure system integrations, updates, and configurations are effectively managed.


- Work with vendors and internal stakeholders to troubleshoot and enhance system functionality.


- Lead or support IT projects, including system upgrades, new technology rollouts, and digital innovation initiatives.


- Develop project plans, manage timelines, and ensure effective communication with stakeholders.


- Evaluate emerging technologies and make recommendations aligned with University strategy.


- Manage relationships with technology vendors, service providers, and contractors.


- Oversee procurement of hardware, software, and IT services following institutional policies.


- Evaluate vendor performance and negotiate renewals or service improvements.


- Develop and manage the IT department budget, including assets, licensing, and operational costs.


- Ensure cost-effective solutions and lifecycle management of IT equipment.


- Oversee inventory, asset tracking, and procurement workflows.


- Lead, supervise, and mentor IT staff, including support technicians, systems administrators, and network engineers.


- Foster a culture of collaboration, service excellence, and continuous improvement.


- Manage staffing, workload distribution, performance reviews, and training initiatives.


Skill & Experience:


- Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (required).


- Postgraduate qualification or industry certification (e.g., ITIL, CISSP, CCNA, Microsoft/AWS certifications) is highly desirable.


- 5+ years experience in IT operations, systems administration, or technology management.


- Experience managing teams in a complex organisational or University environment (preferred).


- Demonstrated experience with networks, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and end-user support.


- Experience implementing IT projects and managing vendors.


- Strong technical expertise with networks, servers, cloud environments, and enterprise systems.


- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.


- Strong communication and customer-service orientation.


- Knowledge of information security principles and regulatory compliance.


- Demonstrated leadership, team building, and stakeholder-engagement skills.


- Ability to manage multiple priorities and operate in fast-paced environments.


- Commitment to continuous improvement, innovation, and service excellence.
