
Role & Designation - Head - Investment Banking (IB Head), Fund Management SBU
Job Overview:
Responsible for leading the Investment Banking business including origination and execution of ECM, DCM, M&A, and structured finance transactions. The role involves building relationships with corporate clients, investors, and internal stakeholders to deliver high-quality advisory and capital-raising solutions.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Develop and drive the IB strategy aligned with the firm's fund management and capital markets capabilities.
- Originate mandates for IPOs, QIPs, rights issues, private placements, structured debt, and M&A transactions.
- Build and manage senior corporate relationships across target sectors.
- Lead deal execution including due diligence, valuation, structuring, documentation, and regulatory approvals.
- Coordinate with legal, compliance, research, sales, and distribution teams to ensure seamless deal delivery.
- Oversee pitch preparation, financial models, information memoranda, and investor presentations.
- Manage relationships with regulators, stock exchanges, rating agencies, and intermediaries.
- Mentor and develop a high-performing IB team - analysts, associates, and VPs.
- Ensure robust risk management, deal selection, and conflict-of-interest controls.
- Track market trends, sector opportunities, and competitive landscape to refine origination strategy.
Skills Required:
1. Domain Skills
- Deep knowledge of IB products (ECM, DCM, M&A, structured finance).
- Strong understanding of SEBI, Companies Act, and listing regulations.
- Sector expertise in select focus industries (e.g., financials, industrials, consumer, tech, etc.).
- Familiarity with investor appetite across public and private markets.
2. Technical Skills
- Advanced financial modelling and valuation (M&A models, LBOs, transaction comps, etc.).
- Strong deal structuring and documentation understanding.
- Ability to oversee complex due diligence streams and manage advisors.
- High proficiency with Excel and presentation tools (PowerPoint).
3. Managerial Skills
- Proven deal leadership from origination through closure.
- Ability to mentor and retain top IB talent in a demanding environment.
- Excellent negotiation, persuasion, and client-handling skills at CXO/Board level.
- Strong project management with ability to run multiple transactions in parallel.
- High integrity and judgement in deal selection and conflict management.
Qualifications:
- MBA/PGDM in Finance from a reputed institute, or CA/CFA with strong IB background.
- 15+ years of experience in investment banking with a track record of closed transactions.
- Experience in leading IB teams and P&L responsibility preferred.
