HOD - Research & Institutional Sales | CEO - Capital Markets SBU
Job Overview:
This role leads the Capital Markets SBU including Equity/Fixed Income Research and Institutional Sales. Responsible for driving research franchise strength, institutional client relationships, and overall SBU profitability while maintaining high standards of compliance, integrity, and research quality.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Own P&L for the Capital Markets SBU (broking, research, institutional sales, and related products).
- Build and manage a differentiated research platform (equity, macro, sectoral, and thematic).
- Lead institutional sales teams covering domestic and offshore FIs, mutual funds, insurers, and PMS/AIFs.
- Set research coverage strategy across sectors and market caps, aligned with business priorities.
- Ensure high-quality research output: company reports, sector notes, thematic pieces, and corporate access.
- Oversee client engagement through roadshows, conferences, webinars, and one-on-one corporate meetings.
- Strengthen corporate relationships for deal flows and non-deal roadshows.
- Ensure regulatory compliance with SEBI Research Analyst / Investment Adviser / Stockbroking regulations.
- Collaborate with trading, investment banking, and wealth management teams for cross-sell opportunities.
- Drive technology and data usage in research (screeners, models, databases, alternative data).
- Represent the franchise with media, industry forums, and rating agencies as required.
Skills Required:
1. Domain Skills:
- In-depth understanding of equity and/or fixed income markets, market microstructure, and trading dynamics.
- Strong background in sell-side or buy-side research and institutional sales.
- Familiarity with institutional client needs, mandate structures, and evaluation criteria.
- Knowledge of SEBI and exchange regulations governing research and capital markets.
- Exposure to IPOs, block trades, and ECM / DCM deal flow (preferred).
2. Technical Skills
- Advanced financial modelling and valuation skills (DCF, relative valuation, scenario analysis).
- Strong quantitative and analytical capabilities; proficiency with Excel and financial databases (Bloomberg, Reuters, etc.).
- Ability to interpret macroeconomic data, corporate earnings, and sector trends.
- Experience using CRM and research management systems.
- Comfort with research publication tools and data visualization.
3. Managerial Skills
- Ability to manage highly skilled analysts and senior sales professionals.
- Strong influencing skills with senior buy-side stakeholders and CXOs.
- Excellence in written and verbal communication; ability to represent house views.
- Strategic mindset with focus on franchise differentiation and monetization.
- High ethical standards and stewardship of research independence.
Qualifications:
- MBA/PGDM in Finance, CFA, CA or equivalent preferred.
- Minimum 15+ years in equity/fixed income research and/or institutional sales, with
leadership experience.
- SEBI RA or related certifications as required by regulations.
