Role title:

Director, Head of APAC & Middle East Corporate Banking Operations

Job functional knowledge:

- Deep operational management experience particularly in Payments, Trade & Working Capital, Client service requirements and industry practices. This experience should include operating across APACME Region (e.g. Hong Kong, Singapore, India and the Middle East.

- Enterprise level leadership of large-scale global operational team (client service, financials, workforce supply and demand, service delivery, matrixed stakeholder management, risk and controls, technology BAU and innovation).

- Comprehensive level of understanding in process improvement and operational excellence techniques and best practices to drive increasing efficiency and improved service delivery.

- Ability to lead and drive an ambitious transformation agenda including incepting a vision, defining the design of the roadmap, highlight issue resolution and execution risk management.

- There will be direct financial accountability across the region for all of the Operations teams and co-accountability with the Transformation team for the execution of the SI portfolio (in excess of 20m). The breadth of responsibility this role has in region reinforces the strategic leadership role with accountability beyond India and includes both the UAE and Singapore, with development underway on the business growth and development strategy for Saudi Arabi and Hong Kong with the Investment Bank.

Business expertise:

- Deep level of understanding how an International Corporate Bank operate in the APACME region and associated operational infrastructures and regulatory environments.

- Experience in senior interactions with 1st, 2nd and 3rd lines of defence teams.

- Focus on Resilience and Incident Management capability at a regional level and for International Corporate Bank.

- Comprehensive understanding of risk and control including the enterprise risk management frameworks.

- External expertise - Industry benchmarks, best practices and peer operating models for operational activity including technology, tools and techniques.

- Background of Accountable Executive level experience of large transformation programs in a Global matrix environment.

- Background of Accountable Executive level experience of managing end to end contract with 3rd party suppliers, supporting our operational infrastructure.

- Operational Representation with local APACME regulators.

Problem-solving:

- On-going load balancing of the workforce, capacity and performance tuning to ensure continued delivery of services within expected service levels taking into all operational risks.

- Ability to identify and escalate appropriately in a Global Matrix environment.

- Repeated efforts in improving operations BAU problem solving from impact analysis of systems issues to root cause identification of volume spikes to people related challenges impacting service delivery.

- Proactive and strategic problem solving and alignment required to deliver strategic change including the balancing and prioritisation of competing stakeholder demands and priorities in a matrix environment.

Leadership:

- Strong experience in managing a large-scale global organisation requiring ability to lead, motivate, inspire and performance manage the workforce in being strong technical experts and displaying excellence in performance standards.

- A senior leader responsible for guiding and developing leaders across Operations, ensuring alignment, performance excellence, and a strong leadership culture.

- The ability to influence and manage a broad range of stakeholders across the enterprise and provide effective solutions to the complex business problems, solving balancing risk appetite, regulatory requirements and cost effectiveness.

- Direct responsibility for associated Operational budget.

Nature of impact:

- Delivery of Operational Support across Payments, Trade & Working Capital and Client service requirements and industry practices across APACME.

- Will represent and own the in region business plans, business as usual and transformation in support of revenue growth and control environment, working in partnership with our Product and Coverage teams.

- Regional Rep on all global governance across the firm as required but specifically for ICB Ops governance (Management, Risk and Change).

- Operational representative for New Product Framework in the region for Corporate Clients.

- Leverage internal and external industry knowledge to drive strategic agenda for the team.

- Entire proposition in the region is predicted on all functions being fully aligned and integrated into the service proposition (KYC, Onboarding, Transaction Monitoring, Billing, Treasury etc etc). The role holder will have to manage that service combination and complexity to excellent effect (identical to the role held by Rosalie Syznal in the US for that region which is an MD level role).

Area of impact:

- Direct management of 3-5 colleagues who deliver services across APACME and across the one of Divisions (Investment Bank), which is subject to further growth as part of strategic plans.

- Regular interaction with the BX Functions including, Compliance and 1st Line Financial Crime Execution teams in both entities across multiple businesses.

- Is accountable in providing the operational and risk based insights and thought leadership to resolve BAU issues and drive innovation and strategic change.

- Provide support to local APACME operational & Tech Leadership across all of the Banks Business segments.

Interpersonal skills:

- Attract, develop and retain a high performing leadership team who are culture carriers.

- Champion change and inspire the workforce to understand the impact to their delivery and how this benefits the business being served and how it minimises negative impact upon colleagues, customers and the business.

- Be the trusted advisor on all matters related to Operational Management, maintaining strong and effective relationships and deal openly with all key stakeholders taking into account the needs of all stakeholders and taking decisions which, in the long term, are positive for customers and clients, shareholders, colleagues and the communities in which operates.
