Role Overview
The Director Hardware R&D will lead all hardware engineering activities for electro-mechanical medical devices and platforms, ensuring seamless integration with systems and software. This role is responsible for driving end-to-end product development, from feasibility and prototyping to new product development (NPD) and sustaining engineering, while establishing standardized tools, processes, and best practices across the global portfolio.
As a key member of the R&D Leadership Team, the incumbent will drive innovation, product strategy, and execution excellence across a global, matrixed organization.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Hardware R&D Leadership
- Lead global hardware engineering teams across architecture, design, development, testing, and reliability.
- Oversee development of electro-mechanical devices ensuring high performance, safety, and compliance.
- Drive integration of hardware with embedded systems and software platforms.
2. Product Development & Lifecycle Management
- Own end-to-end product lifecycle including feasibility, prototyping, NPD, and sustaining engineering.
- Ensure timely delivery of projects within scope, schedule, and budget.
- Establish scalable processes, tools, and methodologies across the global product portfolio.
3. Strategy & Innovation
- Define and drive hardware and product portfolio strategy aligned with business goals.
- Identify emerging technologies and lead innovation initiatives in medical device development.
- Support business growth through technology roadmap and platform development.
4. Cross-Functional & Global Collaboration
- Collaborate with systems engineering, software, regulatory, quality, and manufacturing teams.
- Operate effectively in a global matrix environment, influencing senior stakeholders.
- Lead cross-functional alignment across geographies.
5. Quality, Regulatory & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with global regulatory standards (FDA, CE, ISO, etc.).
- Drive design controls, risk management, and quality processes in product development.
6. Team Leadership & Talent Development
- Build and lead high-performing global teams, including senior managers and technical leaders.
- Drive capability building, succession planning, and talent development initiatives.
- Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelors or Masters degree in Electronics, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering.
18+ years of industry experience, including:
- 15+ years in hardware / systems engineering within healthcare or electro-mechanical products
- 5+ years of global leadership experience
Proven track record of leading large, cross-functional global teams.
Experience managing multiple senior leaders and large-scale R&D programs.

- Deep understanding of medical device regulations, quality systems, and product development lifecycle
