Job Title: Director, Head of Business Unit Compliance (BUK Equivalent)

Overall Purpose of Role:

The Head of Business Unit Compliance will, along with other Directors and Managing Directors within the Business Unit Compliance function, be a key member of the Business Unit Compliance Leadership Team. The Business Unit Compliance team is structured into Centres of Excellence (CoE) based on specialized expertise. The role holder will lead the India-based Business Unit Compliance colleagues who support the UK-based Compliance teams.

Key Accountabilities:

- Collaborate with the Business Unit Compliance leadership to identify activities that can be supported from India, and manage the setup and delivery to establish Centres of Excellence.

- Provide subject matter expertise on UK retail banking products, the regulatory environment (including Consumer Duty), and the internal Compliance Risk Framework to India-based Business Unit Compliance colleagues.

- Deliver education, training, and ongoing support to members of the India-based Business Unit Compliance team.

- Manage stakeholder relationships with Business Unit Compliance Managing Directors/Directors to ensure effective matrix management of the India-based Business Unit Compliance team.

- On behalf of the Business Unit Compliance Leadership Team, undertake specific business oversight accountabilities and provide effective challenge and constructive scrutiny to the business.

- Provide thought leadership and compliance expertise within the wider Compliance function, including supporting the continued embedding of the Business Oversight Compliance Target Operating Model (TOM).

- As a member of the Compliance India Leadership Team, support the growth and value proposition of the Compliance India hub.

- Stakeholder Management and Leadership

Regular interactions of the role holder will include:

- India Head of Compliance

- Business Unit Chief Compliance Officer

- Business Unit Compliance Leadership Team

- Decision-making and Problem Solving

The role requires extensive judgment and strong analytical skills. Given the complexity and breadth of coverage, extensive cross-functional collaboration within Compliance is essential. The role holder must be able to analyse complex data and management information and exercise sound judgment across a wide range of regulatory requirements.

Risk and Control Objective:

- Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to all work undertaken.

- Ensure all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, the Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework, and internal policies and standards.

Essential Skills / Basic Qualifications:

- Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills at a senior level.

- Ability to provide strong people leadership, performance management, and talent development.

- Proven communication and problem-solving skills, creative thinking, and strong judgment and decision-making abilities.

- A solid understanding of retail banking.

- Strong experience in risk management and compliance at a senior level.

- Understanding of new technologies and the use of data within retail banking organisations.

- Innovative self-starter with a challenging yet positive and influential style.
