
Director - Catalog Platform & Operations
JOB DESCRIPTION:
As Director, Catalog Platform & Operations:
You will lead and scale Catalog operations across multiple business verticals such as Food & Grocery, Apparel, Footwear, Consumer Electronics and other lifestyle categories in a seller marketplace environment.
This role requires a strategic leader with strong operational expertise, a deep understanding of category-specific nuances, and the ability to partner with technology teams to build scalable tools and systems for complex, unstructured catalog products.
To be successful in this role, you must have the analytical depth to break down complex problems with a strong will to get things done and deliver results no matter the obstacles.
You must be a strong communicator, with the ability to communicate concisely and effectively with multiple stakeholders to provide meaningful insight. You will be passionate about processes and innovation.
You will have experience collaborating with multiple internal stakeholders such as product, merchandising, sourcing, category, supply chain, and also external vendor partners.
Operating in a fast-moving and sometimes ambiguous environment you will work autonomously taking full control and responsibility for achieving business objectives.
REQUIREMENTS:
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Leadership:
- Define the vision, roadmap, and operational strategies for the catalog function across multiple business verticals.
- Drive alignment between business, category, seller, and technology teams to ensure a seamless product listing and discovery experience.
- Establish best practices for cataloging unstructured products at scale.
2. Catalog Operations Management:
- Oversee creation, enrichment, standardization, and quality control of product catalogs for categories like Food & Grocery, Apparel, Footwear, Consumer Electronics and Accessories.
- Implement strong classification, taxonomy, and attribute frameworks for diverse product categories.
- Own Outcome Metrics: discoverability, conversion, and customer experience through optimized catalog data.
- Numbers driven: Ensure a high-quality day-to-day benchmark metrics for Catalog Accuracy
3. Process & Platform Development:
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to conceptualize, design, and deploy scalable catalog management tools and automation solutions.
- Introduce AI/ML-based solutions for automated data enrichment, attribute mapping, and error detection.
- Drive improvements in speed, accuracy, and efficiency of catalog creation and maintenance.
- Bring in fresh ideas related to Online Content Writing, Photo-shoot, Styling & Editing
4. Stakeholder Management:
- Partner with category managers, seller onboarding teams, and sellers to ensure timely and accurate product listings.
- Engage with sellers to build a robust ecosystem for catalog creation and upkeep.
- Influence senior leadership on catalog priorities and investments.
5. Team Leadership & Development:
- Build, mentor, and scale a high-performing catalog operations team across locations.
- Establish strong governance frameworks, SLAs, and performance metrics for catalog-related workflows.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence.
- High attention to detail, comfortable with hands-on management of tasks, and proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience: 10+ years in eCommerce, Retail, or Marketplace operations, with at least 3 to 5 years in cataloging or product content management.
- Domain Knowledge: Strong understanding of Apparel, Footwear, and related lifestyle categories, including size charts, fabric/material attributes, and seasonal trends.
- Technology Collaboration: Proven experience in working with product & engineering teams to build cataloging tools, taxonomy frameworks, and automation workflows.
- Process Expertise: Expertise in managing catalog operations at scale, including unstructured or complex product types.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret large datasets to identify gaps, trends, and optimization opportunities.
- Leadership Skills: Track record of leading large, diverse teams with strong change management capabilities.
- Communication: Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including influencing senior leaders and cross-functional teams.
