Design & Development Head - Plastics Manufacturing Industry

Position-: Design and Development Head

Location: Vapi, Gujarat

Experience: 15+ years of relevant experience, with a proven track record in a leadership role within the plastics manufacturing industry.

Roles and Responsibilities :

- To Develop and execute the company's design and development strategy, aligning it with business goals for growth and market leadership.

- New product development (NPD): Oversee the entire NPD process, including feasibility studies, material selection, prototyping, and rigorous testing.

- To ensure end to end Project Management, right from receiving the enquiry to final delivery to the customer

- Design for manufacturability (DFM): Integrate DFM and DFMA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly) principles early in the design process to optimize product designs for efficient and cost-effective production.

- Tooling and mold development: Provide expert guidance on injection mold design, hot runner systems, and multi-cavity molds.

- Should be thorough with RFQ management and Cost Estimation

- Team management: Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of engineers and designers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence.

- Cross-functional collaboration: Partner with production, sales, and quality assurance teams to ensure seamless transitions from development to mass production.

- Quality and standards: Uphold and improve quality standards (e.g., ISO) and ensure all products and processes comply with industry regulations.

- Budget management: Effectively manage the department's budget and resources, ensuring projects are completed on time and within financial constraints.

Required Qualifications:

- Education: Bachelor's /Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, or a related field. A postgraduate diploma in tooling (e.g., NTTF, IGTR etc is preferred.

Experience:

- 15+ years of experience in a design, development, or engineering role within the plastics manufacturing industry.

- Significant experience in a senior or leadership position, such as Manager or Head of Engineering.

Technical skills:

- Proficiency with CAD software like SolidWorks, CATIA V5, or AutoCAD.

- In-depth knowledge of plastic materials, properties, and manufacturing processes, including injection molding and extrusion.

- Strong understanding of mold design, tooling, and process flow diagrams.
