Role Overview:

As a Deputy Manager in Indirect Taxation, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the company's robust compliance with all indirect tax regulations, primarily Goods & Services Tax (GST). This dynamic position involves a blend of day-to-day operational compliance, strategic advisory, and proactive risk management. You will work closely with various internal stakeholders including finance, legal, and business units, as well as external consultants and tax authorities, to navigate complex tax landscapes. Your expertise will be instrumental in mitigating tax risks, optimizing tax positions, and contributing significantly to the financial health and operational efficiency of the organization, ensuring seamless business operations and safeguarding the company's interests.

Key Responsibilities:

- Manage and execute end-to-end GST compliance activities, including timely and accurate preparation and filing of various GST returns (GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, GSTR-9, GSTR-9C) for all applicable entities, ensuring adherence to statutory deadlines and minimizing penalties.

- Provide expert advisory and interpretation on complex GST matters to internal business units and leadership, guiding them on the indirect tax implications of new business initiatives, contracts, and transactions to facilitate informed decision-making.

- Conduct thorough monthly and quarterly reconciliations of GSTR-2A/2B with purchase ledgers and GSTR-1 with sales ledgers, proactively identifying discrepancies and ensuring maximum eligible input tax credit utilization for the organization.

- Support and coordinate responses to GST audits, assessments, and notices from tax authorities, collaborating effectively with legal and finance teams to present comprehensive and well-substantiated positions.

- Assist in preparing detailed responses to show cause notices and appeals, providing robust analytical and legal support to the legal team in defending the company's indirect tax positions.

- Identify and recommend opportunities for indirect tax optimization and cost savings, conducting thorough analysis of business operations and presenting actionable strategies to senior management.

- Drive continuous improvement in indirect tax processes, controls, and documentation, leveraging technology and best practices to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and transparency across the tax function.

- Stay abreast of the latest amendments and developments in indirect tax laws and regulations, disseminating critical updates to relevant stakeholders and ensuring proactive adaptation of company policies and procedures.

Required Skillset:

- Demonstrated expertise in Indian Indirect Tax laws, with a strong emphasis on Goods & Services Tax (GST) compliance, advisory, and litigation support. Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP) and tax-specific software is essential.

- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities, coupled with meticulous attention to detail, enabling the accurate interpretation of complex tax statutes and financial data.

- Superior communication skills, both written and verbal, to articulate complex tax concepts clearly to diverse audiences, including senior management, business teams, and external tax authorities.

- A Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification or an MBA in Finance from a premier institution is highly preferred, underscoring a strong foundation in financial and tax principles.

- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively within a fast-paced, dynamic corporate environment in Mumbai, adapting quickly to evolving regulatory landscapes.
