Deputy General Manager - Manufacturing Excellence
Location: Bangalore
Reporting to: CMO
Job Purpose
To lead the continuous improvement and lean transformation journey across multiple manufacturing plants by identifying optimization opportunities, implementing best-in-class lean initiatives, and aligning operations with business goals. This role will act as a strategic partner to plant leaders and drive excellence in manufacturing practices, processes, and performance.
Key Responsibilities
Operational assessment & optimization:
- Lead comprehensive line assessments across multiple manufacturing plants to identify systemic inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and opportunities for process optimization
- Apply lean diagnostic tools such as Value Stream Mapping (VSM), Gemba walks, and root cause analysis to evaluate current-state processes, establish baseline metrics, and prioritize improvement actions
Strategic planning & initiative management:
- Develop, prioritize and execute plant-specific improvement roadmaps that align with enterprise-wide business objectives, balancing short-term gains with long-term transformation
- Define initiative-level KPIs and operational metrics to measure success, drive accountability, and enable real-time course correction
- Translate lean principles into actionable programs, ensuring seamless integration with existing manufacturing systems and processes
Stakeholder engagement & collaboration:
- Act as a central coordination point across sites, facilitating collaboration & cross-facility knowledge transfer between internal stakeholders, plant teams, and external vendors to ensure alignment and resource optimization
- Conduct structured daily check-ins with plant champions to monitor initiative progress, resolve operational roadblocks, and escalate critical issues to the Chief Manufacturing Officer (CMO)
- Lead cross-functional lean events (e.g., Kaizen, SMED, 5S) and facilitate Value Stream Mapping workshops to promote a culture of lean manufacturing, continuous improvement and knowledge sharing across departments
Performance monitoring & reporting
- Establish and maintain robust reporting frameworks to track initiative performance across KPIs, milestones, and cost-savings targets
- Analyse trends, performance variances, and root causes to provide actionable insights in leadership reviews and drive operational decisions
- Ensure continuous feedback loops by recommending corrective actions, updating roadmaps, and institutionalizing learnings into standard operating procedures
Qualifications & Experience
- 15+ years of experience in manufacturing & extensive experience leading and implementing lean initiatives on shop floor
- Exposure to global manufacturing environments is a strong advantage
- Certified in Lean and Six Sigma from a reputed organization
- Strong project leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Mech. Engg./Production Engg. Graduate (PG preferred)
