Job Purpose:
The DGM / GM - EHS will be responsible for strategic leadership, governance, and execution of Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) systems across all construction projects. The role ensures statutory compliance, adherence to client and company EHS standards, and the development of a zero-incident safety culture. This position plays a critical role in managing EHS risks, leading multi-site teams, strengthening environmental practices, and ensuring successful internal and external audits.
Key Responsibilities:
EHS Strategy & Governance
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve the organization-wide EHS strategy, policies, and procedures.
- Establish safety objectives aligned with business goals and regulatory requirements.
- Drive a strong behavior-based safety culture across all levels of the organization.
- Act as the principal EHS advisor to senior management and project leadership.
Project & Site EHS Management
- Oversee EHS implementation across high-rise commercial building and large construction projects.
- Ensure preparation and implementation of project-specific EHS plans, risk assessments, and method statements.
- Conduct regular site inspections, safety reviews, and management walkthroughs.
- Support project teams in identifying hazards and implementing effective risk controls.
Statutory Compliance & Audits
- Ensure full compliance with central, state, and local EHS statutory regulations applicable to construction activities.
- Lead and manage internal, external, client, and statutory audits, including timely closure of observations and non-conformities.
- Maintain statutory records, permits, licenses, and compliance documentation across all sites.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities, inspectors, and external agencies as required.
Incident Management & Risk Control
- Oversee reporting, investigation, and root cause analysis of incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
- Ensure implementation and monitoring of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Analyze safety data, trends, and KPIs to drive continuous improvement in EHS performance.
Environmental Management
- Implement and monitor Environmental Management Plans (EMP) including waste management, pollution control, water and energy conservation.
- Ensure compliance with environmental laws and sustainability requirements for construction projects.
- Promote environmentally responsible construction practices and resource efficiency.
Training, Development & Capability Building
- Develop and roll out EHS training programs, inductions, refresher courses, and leadership safety initiatives.
- Ensure effective onboarding and continuous training of employees, contractors, and subcontractors.
- Mentor, guide, and build strong EHS teams across multiple sites.
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Interface with clients, consultants, and third-party auditors on all EHS-related matters.
- Ensure compliance with client-specific EHS standards, reporting systems, and audit requirements.
- Represent the organization in safety committee meetings, reviews, and inspections.

Preferred Candidate Profile
- 18-20+ years of EHS experience within construction contractor organizations
- Minimum 5+ years in a senior EHS leadership role
- Hands-on exposure to large, complex, multi-location construction projects
- Strong experience handling statutory authorities, audits, and client-driven EHS systems
