Deputy General Manager - Battery Energy Storage System Lead

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dynamic and technically skilled BESS Lead to spearhead the development, integration, and delivery of Battery Energy Storage Systems across our renewable energy portfolio. You will lead cross-functional engineering efforts, oversee BESS project lifecycle activities, and ensure best-in-class system performance, safety, and reliability. This role is pivotal in supporting the companys mission to drive the energy transition through innovation and sustainable technologies.

Key Responsibilities :

Technical Leadership & System Design :

- Lead the end-to-end engineering design of BESS, from concept to commissioning.

- Oversee electrical and mechanical system architecture, including PCS, EMS, HVAC, fire suppression, and battery enclosures.

- Ensure compliance with industry standards, grid requirements, and internal quality benchmarks.

Project Development & Delivery:

- Provide technical input and risk analysis during project development stages.

- Collaborate with project managers to ensure timely and budget-compliant execution of BESS projects.

- Support procurement strategies and vendor evaluations for battery, PCS, and balance of system components.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

- Coordinate across teams including project development, EPC, operations, HSE, and regulatory compliance.

- Act as the primary technical interface with OEMs, integrators, and engineering consultants.

Innovation & Strategy:

- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and regulatory changes in the BESS landscape.

- Contribute to the companys energy storage roadmap and technology strategy.

- Drive initiatives to optimize system performance, lifecycle costs, and integration with solar/wind/hybrid assets.

Required Qualifications:

- Bachelor's or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Energy Engineering, or related field.

- 15+ years of experience in renewable energy, with at least 3 years in BESS-focused roles.

- Strong knowledge of BESS technologies (Li-ion, LFP, flow batteries), PCS, and energy management systems.

- Proven experience with utility-scale or commercial/industrial BESS projects.

- Familiarity with grid interconnection, SCADA systems, and performance modeling tools.

- Excellent project management, communication, and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

- PE License or PMP certification.

- Experience with hybrid systems (solar + storage or wind + storage).

- Understanding of international standards (IEC, UL, NFPA 855, IEEE, NEC 706).

- Experience working with energy markets and grid services (e.g., frequency response, capacity markets)
