About the Role:
We are seeking a Data Governance Specialist with strong functional understanding of banking and capital markets.
This role is not technical or engineering-heavy. Instead, it focuses on partnering with business, risk, operations, and data teams to enhance data governance practices and maintain key data artefacts such as data dictionaries, business glossaries, and metadata repositories.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with large banks or global financial institutions and a good grasp of how data flows across the trade lifecycle, risk, finance, and regulatory reporting functions.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Governance & Policy Execution:
- Implement data governance frameworks, standards, and policies across business units.
- Support data owners and stewards in adopting governance practices.
- Monitor compliance related to data quality, metadata, and lineage.
Data Dictionaries & Business Glossary:
- Develop, update, and maintain data dictionaries, ensuring consistent definitions across functions and systems.
- Build and manage business glossaries, partnering with SMEs for validation.
- Document business rules, data attributes, and mappings at a functional level.
Data Quality & Issue Management:
- Identify data quality issues, conduct root-cause analysis, and track remediation plans.
- Track, measure, and report data quality metrics and exceptions.
Functional Data Analysis:
- Understand data usage across business processesfront office, middle office, operations, risk, finance, and regulatory reporting.
- Document functional data flows, transformation rules, and usage across systems.
- Act as a bridge between business stakeholders and technology teams.
Capital Markets Domain:
- Work with stakeholders across trading, operations, risk, and finance functions.
- Understand key capital markets concepts such as financial products, trade lifecycle, reference data, market data, risk data, and settlements.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Work closely with global teams - data stewards, business SMEs, risk, compliance, technology.
- Facilitate workshops, data governance forums, and data quality reviews.
Required Skills & Experience:
- 5-8 years of experience in data governance, data management, or data quality within large banks or global financial institutions (mandatory).
- Strong understanding of capital markets and the trade lifecycle.
- Experience creating and maintaining data dictionaries, business glossaries, and metadata artefacts.
- Strong functional understanding of business processes; no coding required.
- Experience working with governance tools (Collibra, Axon, Alation, etc.) is a plus but not mandatory.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work effectively in global delivery environments.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Experience with data lineage mapping (functional level).
- Familiarity with risk and finance data domains.
