Role Summary:
We are seeking a high-caliber Credit Manager Mortgages to lead the underwriting function for our retail assets division. In this critical individual and leadership role, you will act as the "Risk Gatekeeper," responsible for the end-to-end credit appraisal of Home Loans and Loan Against Property (LAP). You will be tasked with policy formulation, risk mitigation, and maintaining a high-quality portfolio with a focus on NIL delinquency. The ideal candidate possesses deep knowledge of the Indian mortgage market and regulatory frameworks, ensuring that every credit decision aligns with both RBI guidelines and the banks internal Delegation of Authority (DOA).
Responsibilities:
- High-Stakes Underwriting: Recommend and approve complex mortgage and LAP applications, ensuring a meticulous assessment of borrower profiles, income stability, and property collateral.
- Risk Identification & Mitigation: Identify significant credit, operational, and market risks in every file, implementing robust mitigation strategies to protect the bank's exposure.
- Portfolio Quality Governance: Monitor the regional book to maintain acceptable credit exposure levels, striving for a NIL delinquent book and ensuring zero adverse audit observations.
- Delinquency Management: Coordinate closely with Collections and Business teams to monitor early warning signals and regularize overdue accounts within defined timelines.
- Regulatory Compliance: Apply RBI and MAS guidelines governing credit dispensation, including loan grading, asset classification, and provisioning norms.
- Policy Formulation: Frame and implement regional lending policy frameworks and workflows to ensure standardized, error-free operations across multiple locations.
- Technical & Legal Oversight: Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of the legal framework applicable to banking in India, including SARFAESI and property title verification.
- Team Leadership & Mentorship: Manage the regional underwriting team, providing guidance to mortgage counselors on underwriting standards and credit processes.
- Market Intelligence: Leverage deep knowledge of the Western India mortgage market to identify regional risk trends and adapt lending strategies accordingly.
- Audit & Process Excellence: Ensure 100% adherence to approved process workflows to maintain a robust internal control environment.
Technical Requirements:
- Mortgage Mastery: 5+ years of experience in Mortgage Underwriting, specifically in Home Loans and LAP.
- SME Credit Approval: Proven experience in SME credit approval and understanding of financial statement analysis for self-employed profiles.
- Regulatory Expertise: Thorough understanding of RBI regulations, provisioning norms, and asset classification.
- Product Knowledge: Expert-level understanding of LAP structures, including LTV (Loan-to-Value) and FOIR (Fixed Obligation to Income Ratio) calculations.
Preferred Skills:
- Market Familiarity: Strong exposure to the Western Indian real estate and banking market.
- Trade Finance Knowledge: Familiarity with Letters of Credit and Credit Notes is an added advantage.
- System Proficiency: Experience with Loan Origination Systems (LOS) and credit scoring models.
