Position Overview

The Cost Controller will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing the overall cost structure across manufacturing, supply chain, procurement, and e- commerce/ quick- commerce operations. This role ensures accurate costing, monitors variances, controls spending, supports pricing decisions, and provides financial insights to management for strategic planning.

The ideal candidate will have strong analytical and financial skills, experience in FMCG/manufacturing costing, and the ability to collaborate with cross- functional teams-including production, procurement, supply chain, warehousing, and online commerce teams.

Key Responsibilities

1. Product Costing & Manufacturing Cost Control

- Maintain accurate BOM (Bill of Materials), production costing sheets, and overhead absorption.

- Analyze raw material, packaging, labor, and overhead costs; highlight variances.

- Monitor actual vs. standard cost deviations and recommend corrective actions.

- Work closely with plant teams to control wastage, yield issues, rejections, and inefficiencies.

- Support NPD teams in costing new products, packaging formats, and trial batches.

2. Inventory & Supply Chain Cost Management

- Track RM/PM/FG/SFG inventory valuation and ensure accurate month- end closures.

- Analyze logistics, freight, warehousing, and fulfillment costs for offline, e- commerce, and quick- commerce channels.

- Monitor inventory ageing, write- off risks, and movement patterns with recommendations to management.

- Support stock audits and ensure compliance with internal controls.

3. E- commerce & Quick Commerce Financial Control

- Track platform commissions, delivery charges, packaging costs, discounts, claims, and deductions.

- Work with e- commerce operations to monitor cost- to- serve for Amazon, Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy Instamart, etc.

- Evaluate promo spends, marketing costs, and trade margins for online channels.

- Analyze contribution margins per channel/SKU and assist in pricing decisions.

4. Procurement & Vendor Cost Monitoring

- Validate purchase prices, rate changes, and procurement efficiencies.

- Assist procurement in cost negotiations using data- backed analysis.

- Monitor vendor ageing, GRN pending status, and invoice mismatches.

- Track advances and ensure timely settlement or adjustment.

5. Financial Planning, MIS & Reporting

- Prepare monthly cost reports, variance analysis, SKU profitability, and plant efficiency reports.

- Provide detailed MIS for management decision- making.

- Support annual budgeting and rolling forecasts related to costs, production, and procurement.

- Work with auditors for statutory, internal, and cost audit requirements.

Skills & Qualifications:

Education:

- Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Accounting, or Finance.

- MBA in Finance / Cost Accounting / ICWA (preferred).

Experience:

- 4+ years in FMCG, manufacturing, food processing, or consumer products.

- Experience working with e- commerce/quick- commerce financials is highly preferred.

Technical Skills

- Strong knowledge of costing methods (Standard Costing, Absorption Costing).

- Skilled in Excel, Power BI, and ERP systems (Tally, SAP, Oracle, Zoho, etc.).

- Good understanding of inventory valuation, GST rules, and cost audit requirements.

Behavioural Skills:

- Strong analytical and problem- solving abilities.

- High attention to detail and accuracy.

- Excellent coordination with cross- functional teams.

- Ability to work under tight timelines in a fast- moving FMCG environment.

Preferred Attributes:

- Experience in FMCG with exposure to both manufacturing and e- commerce businesses.

- Understanding of supply chain cost structures and online platform economics.
