Controller (India) - U.S. Finance & Accounting Operations

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Controller to lead the accounting, financial reporting, and control environment for our U.S. operations from our India office. This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial information, overseeing the month-end close process, strengthening internal controls, supporting strategic decision-making, and driving continuous improvement across finance operations.

The Controller will serve as the primary finance leader responsible for the U.S. books and records, partnering closely with executive leadership, auditors, tax advisors, operational leaders, and finance teams across the United States and India. The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting expertise with leadership capabilities, business acumen, and a passion for process excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Leadership & Reporting:

- Own the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of the U.S. general ledger and financial records.

- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.

- Prepare and review U.S. GAAP-compliant financial statements and management reporting packages.

- Analyze financial results, identify key drivers and trends, and provide actionable insights to leadership.

- Ensure appropriate accounting treatment for complex transactions and new business initiatives.

- Support executive management with financial analyses and ad hoc reporting requests.

Accounting Operations:

- Oversee all core accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, fixed assets, accruals, and intercompany transactions.

- Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation.

- Ensure balance sheet accounts are adequately supported and reconciled on a timely basis.

- Maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures, and documentation.

Internal Controls, Compliance & Risk Management:

- Design, implement, and continuously improve internal controls and accounting processes.

- Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, corporate policies, and regulatory requirements.

- Coordinate annual financial statement audits, tax filings, and external compliance reviews.

- Partner with auditors and tax advisors to address technical accounting and compliance matters.

- Proactively identify financial, operational, and compliance risks and recommend mitigation strategies.

- Support implementation of finance governance and control frameworks across the organization.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Business Partnership:

- Partner with finance leadership in developing budgets, forecasts, and long-range financial plans.

- Support cash flow forecasting, working capital management, and liquidity planning.

- Collaborate with operational leaders to improve financial visibility and accountability.

- Provide recommendations that improve profitability, efficiency, and decision-making.

Team Leadership & Talent Development:

- Lead, coach, and develop accounting professionals supporting U.S. operations.

- Establish performance expectations and foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and operational excellence.

- Develop succession plans and strengthen technical accounting capabilities within the team.

- Promote collaboration across U.S. and India finance organizations.

Systems, Automation & Process Improvement:

- Champion automation and continuous improvement initiatives across finance and accounting processes.

- Drive optimization and effective utilization of Microsoft Dynamics Business Central and related financial systems.

- Evaluate reporting, workflow, and technology enhancements that improve efficiency, scalability, and internal controls.

- Leverage data and analytics to support operational and financial decision-making.

Cross-Border Finance Operations:

- Act as a trusted business partner to U.S.-based executive leadership and operational teams.

- Manage effective communication and collaboration across multiple time zones.

- Support intercompany accounting, reconciliation processes, and cross-border financial initiatives.

- Ensure alignment between India operations and U.S. reporting requirements and timelines.

Qualifications:

Required:

- Chartered Accountant (CA), CPA, CMA, or equivalent professional accounting qualification.

- 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience with increasing leadership responsibility.

- Minimum 5 years of experience supporting U.S. GAAP accounting and financial reporting.

- Demonstrated experience managing month-end close, audits, and internal control environments.

- Strong knowledge of financial statement preparation, account reconciliations, and technical accounting concepts.

- Experience leading accounting teams in a multinational or shared-services environment.

- Advanced proficiency in ERP systems, preferably Microsoft Dynamics Business Central, NetSuite, SAP, or Oracle.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with senior management.

Preferred:

- Experience working in a U.S.-based or multinational organization.

- Public accounting experience, preferably with a Big Four or large regional accounting firm.

- Experience managing multi-entity accounting environments and consolidations.

- Exposure to ASC 606 revenue recognition, lease accounting (ASC 842), and intercompany accounting.

- Experience supporting private equity-backed or high-growth organizations.

- Strong knowledge of financial automation, reporting tools, and process transformation initiatives.
