Consultant - Payments - Global Consulting Firm - Contractual

A global consulting firm is partnering with a dynamic private limited startup to strengthen its digital payments capabilities. This engagement focuses on building a robust, scalable payments infrastructure to support seamless transaction processing and operational excellence in the Indian fintech ecosystem.

As the Payments Consultant, you will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing end-to-end payment solutions across key NPCI rails. This work will directly enable the startup's go-live, ensure regulatory compliance, and establish reliable operational frameworks, delivering significant impact on transaction reliability, risk management, and business scalability.

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead payment service design and architecture across UPI, AePS, BBPS, IMPS, and other relevant NPCI rails

- Support end-to-end payment stack setup, including gateway, switch, reconciliation, settlement, and dispute management processes

- Collaborate with business and technology teams to create comprehensive functional and technical requirements

- Drive vendor evaluation, onboarding, and commercial/technical negotiations

- Oversee implementation, integration, UAT coordination, NPCI/bank certifications, and successful deployment

- Establish operational processes for transaction monitoring, reconciliation, exception handling, and reporting while supporting regulatory compliance and risk controls (RBI/NPCI guidelines)

Your Background:

- 7+ years of experience in digital payments, payment switch/platform implementation, or payment operations

- Deep expertise in NPCI rails (UPI, AePS, BBPS, IMPS) and ecosystem integrations

- Proven track record working with fintechs, banks, payment aggregators, or payment processors

- Strong hands-on experience in payment architecture, reconciliation, settlement workflows, vendor management, and cross-functional coordination

- Masters degree preferred (not mandatory); emphasis is on relevant domain expertise and delivery experience

This is a live project with an on-site requirement in Mumbai. The initial contract duration is 12 months with strong potential for extension.
