Role Overview?

We are looking for experienced Buyers with strong expertise in sourcing and procurement of staples such as wheat, atta, rice, pulses, and other agri commodities. The role will be responsible for ensuring cost-effective procurement, consistent quality, and reliable supply while managing vendor relationships across mandis and trade networks. The ideal candidate should have deep market understanding, strong negotiation skills, and hands-on experience in commodity buying with experience in FMCG majors such as ITC, Parle, Britannia, Adani, Reliance

Key Responsibilities

Commodity Procurement

- Source wheat and other staples directly from FPOs, mandis, aggregators and traders

- Monitor mandi prices, arrivals, crop patterns, and seasonal trends

- Execute procurement strategy aligned with cost targets and quality standards

- Plan forward buying and hedge against price volatility where required

Vendor Management

- Develop and manage supplier network across key sourcing regions

- Negotiate commercial terms, credit cycles, and supply contracts

- Conduct supplier performance reviews (quality, timeliness, pricing)

- Identify and onboard alternate vendors to reduce supply risk

Quality Control

- Ensure procurement meets defined quality parameters

- Coordinate with QC team for sampling and testing

- Reduce rejection rates and wastage

Cost & Inventory Optimization

- Track landed cost including logistics

- Work with logistics team to optimize freight and handling costs

- Maintain optimal inventory levels to avoid stock-outs or overstocking

- Provide regular MIS on price trends and savings

Market Intelligence

- Track government policies (MSP, export/import norms)

- Monitor crop reports, weather impact, and competitor activity

- Provide forward price outlook and risk assessment

Candidate Profile

Qualification and experience:

- 5-10 years in staples procurement with FMCG / flour mill / food company / trading house

Skills Required:

- Strong negotiation ability

- Deep understanding of mandi ecosystem

- Knowledge of quality parameters for wheat & staples

- Analytical mindset (costing, price trend analysis)
