A leading Indian diversified industrial group is building a new-generation electric commercial mobility business focused on transforming the way goods and people move in India.

The business is developing a full-stack electric commercial mobility ecosystem covering electric trucks, electric buses, vehicle technology, charging infrastructure, financing, Battery-as-a-Service and after-sales solutions. The company has recently launched its new electric commercial vehicle brand and is building a large-scale greenfield manufacturing facility in Maharashtra.

The organisation is developing its technology largely in-house, including the electric drivetrain platform, vehicle control systems, software and algorithms, while combining deep localisation with selected global technology partnerships.

With an ambitious plan to scale its electric commercial vehicle business substantially over the coming years, this is an opportunity to join at a formative stage and play a key role in defining the technology architecture, product roadmap and engineering organisation.

The Opportunity:

We are looking for a Chief Technology Officer to lead the technology, product engineering and R&D agenda for the electric commercial mobility business.

This is a strategic and highly hands-on leadership role responsible for taking the organisation from technology development and early product launch to scaled production and a broad electric commercial vehicle portfolio.

The CTO will own the technology roadmap across vehicle architecture, electric powertrain, batteries, embedded systems, vehicle software, electronics, connectivity and advanced mobility technologies.

The role will work closely with the CEO, business leadership, product, manufacturing, supply chain and commercial teams to build a globally competitive technology platform for electric commercial vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:

Technology & Product Strategy:

- Define and drive the long-term technology strategy for the electric commercial vehicle business.

- Establish the technology roadmap covering trucks, buses and future commercial vehicle platforms.

- Drive technology decisions around vehicle architecture, electric powertrain, battery systems, electronics and software.

- Build a scalable technology platform that can support multiple vehicle architectures and product variants.

Electric Vehicle Technology:

- Lead development of electric drivetrain architecture including motors, inverters, transmission, VCU and associated systems.

- Oversee battery technology, BMS, thermal management, charging systems and energy management.

- Drive development of vehicle control software, embedded systems and vehicle electronics.

- Strengthen in-house software, algorithms and controls capabilities.

- Ensure products meet applicable Indian and global automotive regulations and safety requirements.

Connected & Software-Defined Vehicles:

- Develop the organisation's roadmap for connected commercial vehicles and software-defined vehicle capabilities.

- Lead development of telematics, diagnostics, OTA capabilities, fleet analytics and connected vehicle platforms.

- Explore AI/ML applications for predictive maintenance, energy optimisation, fleet management and vehicle performance.

- Establish robust software architecture and cybersecurity practices.

R&D & Engineering Leadership:

- Build and lead a high-calibre R&D and product engineering organisation.

- Establish engineering processes covering concept, architecture, prototype development, validation, certification and SOP.

- Drive rapid product development while maintaining quality, reliability and safety.

- Build strong capabilities across mechanical, electrical, electronics, embedded software and systems engineering.

Product Development & Industrialisation:

- Work closely with manufacturing and operations teams to transition products from engineering to mass production.

- Drive design-for-manufacturing, localisation and cost optimisation.

- Partner with suppliers and global technology partners on technology development and localisation.

- Support the rapid scale-up of production and expansion into new vehicle segments.

Innovation & Future Technologies:

- Identify emerging technologies that can create competitive differentiation in electric commercial mobility.

- Evaluate next-generation battery technologies, charging solutions, autonomous/ADAS technologies and AI-enabled mobility solutions.

- Build partnerships with technology companies, research institutions, startups and global automotive technology providers.

Business & Leadership:

- Work closely with senior leadership on product investments, technology partnerships and strategic decisions.

- Translate customer and market requirements into technology and product roadmaps.

- Balance technology ambition with commercial viability, cost, reliability and scalability.

- Represent the organisation with technology partners, suppliers, industry bodies and other external stakeholders.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

- 18+ years of experience in automotive, electric mobility, commercial vehicles or an adjacent technology-intensive industry.

- Significant senior leadership experience across EV product development, automotive R&D and technology engineering.

- Proven experience in developing and launching electric vehicles at scale.

- Strong understanding of electric powertrain, battery systems, BMS, VCU, embedded systems and automotive electronics.

- Strong exposure to vehicle software, connected vehicles and modern automotive technology.

- Experience leading large multidisciplinary engineering/R&D teams.

- Experience taking products from concept - engineering - prototype - validation - homologation - SOP - scale-up.

- Strong understanding of commercial vehicle architecture would be highly desirable.

- Experience with trucks and/or buses will be preferred.

- Exposure to global technology partnerships, localisation and supplier ecosystems.

- Strong understanding of automotive quality, safety and regulatory requirements.
