Role Overview:
The Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) is a senior executive responsible for driving the organizations long-term strategic direction, ensuring alignment with business goals and external market dynamics.
- The role involves identifying growth opportunities, enabling transformation programs, optimizing business portfolios, and supporting leadership with actionable insights for decision-making. The CSO will work closely with the executive team to drive sustainable growth, innovation, and competitive positioning.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Vision & Corporate Planning
- Develop and execute comprehensive long-term strategic roadmaps.
- Lead annual and multi-year strategic planning cycles.
- Translate strategic priorities into measurable goals and implementation frameworks.
- Advise leadership on macroeconomic, geopolitical, and technology-driven shifts impacting business.
2. Market & Business Intelligence
- Conduct sectoral analysis, competitor benchmarking, and trend forecasting.
- Identify white-space opportunities, new market segments, and disruptive business models.
- Monitor regulatory, policy, and sustainability developments impacting business competitiveness.
3. Growth & Diversification
- Drive initiatives related to market expansion, new revenue streams, mergers & acquisitions, and strategic partnerships.
- Oversee feasibility studies for greenfield/brownfield projects, capacity expansion, digital transformation, and innovation-oriented investments.
- Evaluate strategic investments, ROI models, and risk-return mapping.
4. Organizational Alignment & Execution
- Ensure cascading of strategic objectives across all business functions.
- Lead cross-functional transformation programs and strategic projects.
- Design performance metrics, governance structures, and reporting dashboards (KPIs/KRAs).
- Support the board/leadership with strategic communication, presentations, and decision frameworks.
5. Risk, Governance & Portfolio Optimization
- Identify operational, market, financial, geopolitical, and compliance-related risks.
- Develop risk mitigation frameworks and crisis adaptability strategies.
- Recommend portfolio restructuring, divestments, and cost-optimization initiatives.
6. Stakeholder Leadership
- Collaborate with key stakeholders including CXOs, finance, supply chain, operations, technology, and sustainability teams.
- Engage externally with government bodies, industry associations, investors, and strategic alliances.
- Represent the organization at high-level strategic discussions and forums.
Experience & Qualifications
- Total Experience: 15-25 years overall.
- Industry Expertise: Preferably in manufacturing, petrochemicals, energy, technology, diversified industrials (or similar), people with Consulting background preferred.
- Minimum 8-10 years in roles related to:
- Strategy / Corporate Planning / Growth & Transformation
- Business Development / M&A / Project Feasibility
- Digitalization, innovation, or enterprise optimization (preferred)
Educational Qualification:
- Engineering/Science Graduate with MBA (Tier-1/2 institute preferred)
- Exposure to global markets / international strategic assignments is desirable.
- Proven leadership of large-scale transformation, business restructuring, or expansion initiatives.
- Strong financial acumen, stakeholder management, and governance experience.
