Role Purpose:
The Chief Risk Officer (CRO) will be responsible for establishing, implementing, and overseeing the enterprise-wide risk management framework of the organization. The role will ensure effective identification, assessment, monitoring, mitigation, and reporting of risks across all business functions, while supporting sustainable growth, regulatory compliance, and operational resilience.
The CRO will work closely with senior leadership, business heads, compliance, finance, operations, and technology teams to strengthen the organization's risk culture and safeguard stakeholder interests.
Key Responsibilities:
Enterprise Risk Management:
- Develop and implement the organization's Risk Management Framework aligned with strategic business objectives.
- Establish risk governance structures, policies, procedures, and controls across the organization.
- Drive enterprise-wide risk identification, assessment, mitigation, monitoring, and reporting processes.
- Present risk insights and recommendations to senior management and Board Committees.
Market & Trading Risk:
- Monitor market, liquidity, concentration, and counterparty risks arising from securities trading activities.
- Review risk limits, margin frameworks, exposure management, and stress testing methodologies.
- Ensure robust monitoring of proprietary and client trading risks.
Credit Risk Management:
- Oversee credit risk assessment and approval frameworks for clients, counterparties, and business partners.
- Monitor credit exposures and recommend appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
- Establish early warning systems and portfolio risk monitoring mechanisms.
Operational Risk Management:
- Lead operational risk assessments across business functions.
- Strengthen internal controls and implement risk mitigation measures.
- Oversee incident management, root cause analysis, and corrective action plans.
- Drive business continuity and disaster recovery planning.
Regulatory & Compliance Risk:
- Ensure adherence to applicable regulations issued by regulators such as Securities and Exchange Board of India, National Stock Exchange of India, BSE Limited, and other relevant authorities.
- Collaborate with Compliance and Internal Audit teams to strengthen governance standards.
- Stay updated on regulatory developments and assess their impact on business operations.
Technology & Cyber Risk:
- Partner with technology teams to assess cybersecurity, information security, and technology-related risks.
- Ensure adequate controls around digital platforms, trading systems, and data protection frameworks.
Risk Analytics & Reporting:
- Develop risk dashboards, MIS reports, KRIs, and risk monitoring tools.
- Implement risk analytics and predictive risk management methodologies.
- Present risk reports and recommendations to senior leadership and Board Committees.
Leadership & Stakeholder Management:
- Build and lead a high-performing risk management team.
- Promote a strong risk awareness culture across the organization.
- Act as a trusted advisor to business leaders on risk-related matters.
Desired Candidate Profile:
Education:
- CA / MBA (Finance) / CFA / FRM / Master's Degree in Finance, Risk Management, Economics, or related discipline.
- Professional certifications such as FRM, PRM, CFA, or equivalent will be preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum 15 years of experience in Risk Management within Stock Broking, Capital Markets, Wealth Management, Investment Banking, NBFC, or Financial Services sectors.
- At least 5 years in a senior leadership role managing enterprise risk functions.
- Strong understanding of capital markets, margin management, credit risk, market risk, operational risk, and regulatory requirements.
