Job Summary:
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for leading, managing, and optimizing the organizations overall operational performance. The role ensures operational excellence, service quality, process efficiency, regulatory compliance, and strategic execution across all departments.
The COO works closely with senior leadership to drive growth, operational stability, and long-term organizational success.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership:
- Oversee day-to-day operations across all departments (clinical, non-clinical, support services, logistics, administration, and business operations).
- Develop and implement operational policies, SOPs, and quality standards.
- Improve workflow efficiency, reduce operational bottlenecks, and enhance service delivery.
- Ensure departments operate in alignment with organizational goals.
Strategic Planning & Execution
- Support CEO/MD in developing short-term and long-term strategic plans.
- Translate strategy into measurable operational plans, KPIs, and performance targets.
- Lead growth initiatives, expansions, new project rollouts, and process automation.
- Identify operational risks and implement mitigation strategies.
Financial & Resource Management
- Collaborate with Finance to plan budgets, control costs, and optimize resource allocation.
- Monitor departmental expenditures and implement cost-saving measures without affecting service quality.
- Ensure optimal utilization of manpower, infrastructure, and technology.
- Support revenue cycle processes and operational profitability improvements.
Quality, Compliance & Accreditation
- Ensure compliance with regulatory bodies, accreditation standards (NABH/NABL/JCI), and statutory requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement in patient/customer experience and service quality.
- Conduct regular audits, monitoring, and corrective action planning.
- Promote a culture of safety, efficiency, and accountability.
Team Leadership & People Management
- Lead department heads and operational teams with clear direction, target-setting, and performance monitoring.
- Conduct performance evaluations and capability development plans.
- Foster strong cross-functional coordination and communication.
- Promote an ethical, disciplined, and service-oriented work culture.
Process Improvement & Technology Implementation
- Identify gaps and implement process enhancements to improve turnaround times, productivity, and throughput.
- Support digital transformation initiatives (ERP, HIS, CRM, automation systems, dashboards).
- Strengthen data-driven decision-making through reporting structures and analytics.
Stakeholder & External Coordination
- Maintain strong communication with internal and external stakeholders, clients, vendors, regulatory bodies, and partners.
- Ensure timely resolution of escalations and major operational issues.
- Represent the organization in external meetings, audits, and inspections.
Crisis & Risk Management
- Develop and implement emergency response and business continuity plans.
- Monitor operational risks, safety concerns, and compliance gaps.
- Lead crisis management during operational breakdowns, shortages, or emergencies.
