Role Overview:
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Margastra Pvt. Ltd. will be responsible for leading and integrating sales, distribution, service delivery, supply chain, and aftermarket operations for construction equipment and special-purpose machinery. With manufacturing operations located overseas, the COO will ensure strong commercial execution, market expansion, service excellence, and operational scalability in India. Reporting directly to the CEO, the COO will drive growth, profitability, customer satisfaction, and operational governance aligned with global OEM standards.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Business Leadership
- Partner with the CEO to translate corporate strategy into sales-led operational execution plans
- Drive pan-India business expansion across sales, service, and distribution channels
- Establish and monitor KPIs, dashboards, and governance frameworks aligned with global OEM benchmarks
- Lead cross-functional alignment across sales, service, supply chain, finance, HR, quality, and overseas manufacturing teams
- Act as a key interface between overseas manufacturing units and Indian commercial operations
Sales & Commercial Operations (Primary Focus)
- Lead and scale sales operations for construction equipment and special-purpose machinery across India
- Develop and execute go-to-market strategies, pricing models, and sales planning
- Drive dealer, distributor, and channel partner development, including onboarding, performance management, and capability building
- Strengthen key account management with government bodies, PSUs, infrastructure companies, and contractors
- Ensure accurate sales forecasting, order booking, and revenue realization
- Collaborate with Finance and CEO to achieve revenue growth, margin improvement, and market share expansion
Operations, Supply Chain & Overseas Manufacturing Coordination
- Oversee end-to-end order-to-delivery operations, including import coordination, logistics, warehousing, and dispatch
- Act as the operational bridge between overseas manufacturing facilities and Indian sales/service teams
- Ensure adherence to quality standards, certifications, and OEM norms for imported equipment
- Optimize lead times, inventory levels, and working capital efficiency
- Drive cost optimization through localization, vendor development, and value engineering (where applicable)
Service, Aftermarket & Customer Support
- Lead service operations including installation, commissioning, warranty management, AMC, and field service
- Build a strong aftermarket business through spare parts sales, service contracts, and uptime improvement
- Ensure SLA adherence, high first-time-fix rates, and superior customer satisfaction
- Scale service infrastructure, service teams, and dealer service capabilities
- Use service data and customer feedback to drive continuous improvement and repeat sales
Financial & Performance Management
- Work closely with the Finance team on budgeting, forecasting, and profitability analysis
- Drive operational cost control and productivity improvements across sales, service, and supply chain
- Support EBITDA growth through sales effectiveness, operational readiness, and service excellence
- Ensure strong governance over receivables, credit control, and working capital
People Leadership & Culture
- Lead and mentor sales heads, service heads, supply chain leaders, and senior managers
- Build a high-performance, customer-centric, and execution-focused culture
- Drive leadership development, succession planning, and talent retention
- Promote strong collaboration between sales, service, and overseas manufacturing teams
Compliance, Risk & Governance
- Ensure compliance with statutory, safety, environmental, and industry regulations
- Identify operational and commercial risks and implement mitigation strategies
- Promote ESG, safety, ethics, and governance best practices across operations
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical / Industrial / Manufacturing Engineering or related field
- MBA / post-graduate qualification in Operations, Sales, or General Management preferred
Experience
- 18+ years of overall experience, with 5-8 years in a senior leadership role
- Proven experience in construction equipment, heavy engineering, capital goods, or automotive OEMs
- Strong background in sales leadership, distribution, service operations, and aftermarket
- Exposure to organizations such as JCB, Volvo, Caterpillar, L&T, Komatsu, or similar OEMs preferred
- Experience managing India operations with overseas manufacturing interfaces is a strong advantage
