Job Opening: Chief Financial Officer (CFO) - Mumbai

Location: Chembur, Mumbai

Reports To: Founder / Board of Directors

About the Role

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join the leadership team. This role will be responsible for ensuring long-term financial sustainability, governance, and donor confidence as the organization scales nationally. The CFO will act as a key advisor to the Board, lead financial planning, and drive compliance while strengthening systems, controls, and impact reporting.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Financial Leadership:

- Develop and implement multi-year financial strategies aligned with growth and expansion plans.

- Lead scenario planning, modeling, and projections to support decision-making.

- Balance sustainability, program growth, and risk management.

Governance & Compliance:

- Serve as principal financial advisor to the Board & Finance Committee.

- Ensure adherence to CSR, FCRA, Income Tax, and Companies Act (Sec. 8) regulations.

- Present dashboards, risk assessments, and donor-impact cost frameworks to stakeholders.

Fundraising & Donor Relations:

- Partner with fundraising teams to design financially sound donor proposals.

- Engage with institutional donors, corporates, and foundations to build trust.

- Strengthen narratives around corpus funds, reserves, and long-term sustainability.

Financial Management & Controls:

- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, audits, and MIS reporting.

- Drive efficiency via cost optimization and resource allocation.

- Maintain robust internal controls and ensure audit readiness.

Risk & Capital Stewardship:

- Establish enterprise risk frameworks covering compliance, liquidity, and operations.

- Manage corpus funds, reserves, and investments to ensure organizational stability.

Systems & Leadership:

- Lead finance technology roadmap, including ERP/MIS implementation.

- Mentor and develop a strong finance team with succession planning.

- Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and donor confidence.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

- Education: Chartered Accountant (CA) preferred; MBA Finance, CPA, or equivalent accepted.

- Experience: 10-15 years progressive leadership in finance; minimum 5 years in senior roles (CFO/Head of Finance/Controller). Exposure to NGO, CSR, or compliance-heavy corporate environments preferred.

- Strong knowledge of Indian statutory & donor regulations (CSR, FCRA, Income Tax, Companies Act Sec. 8).

- Expertise in corpus/endowment management, financial modeling, audits, and ERP/MIS systems.

- Exceptional communication, Board engagement, and donor-facing skills.

- Values-driven leader with commitment to financial sustainability and governance.

Key Outcomes Expected:

- A clear, financially sustainable roadmap for national expansion.

- Transparent financial reporting to Board and donors.

- Strong reserves and corpus policies, reducing dependence on short-term fundraising.

- Enhanced systems ensuring audit-readiness at all times.

- A capable second-line finance leadership pipeline in place.
