Job Title : Chief Financial Officer


Location : New Delhi

About the opportunity :


A leading international non-profit organization is looking to appoint a Chief Financial Officer to provide strong financial leadership and ensure effective financial governance across the organization.


The role will be responsible for managing financial operations, strengthening financial controls and compliance, overseeing donor and project finances, and supporting senior leadership with timely and insightful financial information.


The position offers an opportunity to work in a mission-driven, multi-stakeholder international NGO environment, with significant responsibility for financial governance, regulatory compliance and process improvement.


Key Responsibilities :


Financial Management & Planning :


- Lead organizational and project-level financial management, budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting.


- Monitor budgets, expenditure, cash flows and fund utilization across projects and offices.


- Provide financial analysis and advice to senior management to support informed decision-making.


- Strengthen financial controls, processes and systems across the organization.


FCRA & Statutory Compliance :


- Oversee compliance with FCRA, Income Tax and other applicable statutory requirements.


- Ensure appropriate accounting, utilization and reporting of foreign contributions.


- Oversee statutory filings, regulatory reporting, maintenance of records and compliance requirements.


- Monitor regulatory changes and advise management on their implications.


Donor & Project Finance :


- Ensure effective financial management of donor-funded projects and restricted grants.


- Oversee donor financial reporting, utilization certificates and donor audits.


- Work closely with programme teams on project budgets, expenditure and donor compliance.


- Monitor financial management of implementing partners and grants, where applicable.


Audit, Risk & Governance :


- Coordinate statutory, internal and donor audits and ensure timely closure of audit observations.


- Strengthening internal controls and financial risk management.


- Promote transparency, accountability and responsible stewardship of organizational and donor resources.


ERP & Digital Transformation :


- Oversee the organization's financial ERP and ensure data accuracy and effective system usage.


- Lead system improvements, automation and integration of financial and project management processes.


- Work with technology partners and internal stakeholders on system upgrades and process improvements.


Leadership & Stakeholder Management :


- Lead and develop finance teams across locations.


- Build organizational capability in financial management, compliance and systems.


- Work closely with programme, HR, procurement, IT and senior leadership teams.


- Manage relationships with auditors, banks, consultants, vendors and other external stakeholders.


Ideal Candidate :


- Charted Accountant (CA) Degree.


- 15+ years of relevant experience, preferably in an international NGO, development organization or other donor-funded environment.


- Strong knowledge of FCRA, statutory compliance, financial controls and audit.


- Experience in donor-funded projects, grants and financial reporting.


- Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis and organizational finance.


- Experience with ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics, SAP, Oracle or similar platforms.


- Experience leading and developing finance teams, preferably across multiple locations.


- Strong stakeholder management, analytical and communication skills.


- High levels of integrity, accountability and commitment to responsible financial stewardship.
