About the Role:
- We are seeking an experienced finance leader for a leadership role to oversee our finance and commercial function.
- The individual will guide our finance strategy across fund operations, fund structuring, new investments, and portfolio engagement, while managing key internal and external stakeholders.
- Although an operational team is already in place, the role will concentrate on developing finance operations for the next level of scale and complexity.
Key Responsibilities:
Stakeholder Management & Representation:
- Face of the firm on all finance/compliance matters-internally with General Partners (GPs), investment teams, operations; externally with regulators, auditors, banks, legal and tax advisors, etc.
- Support GPs with LP due diligence and onboarding.
- Collaborate on LP-facing financial communications, including reporting, audits, capital calls, and distributions.
- Collaborate with GPs on all fund and portfolio-related matters to position as the preferred choice for investors and founders.
- Serve as a finance observer on the Investment Committee (IC); assess new investments through a commercial lens with a focus on maximising fund returns.
- Foster an environment of process, governance, and internal discipline.
- Act as a thought partner to internal teams on investments, governance, and commercial matters.
- Provide guidance to a team of 4-5 experienced members and multiple service providers with strategic direction and execution planning.
Fund Operations:
- Evaluate fund structures, capital inflows, and tax and compliance requirements across jurisdictions, including India, the US, and Mauritius.
- Ensure cash adequacy, capital calls, and treasury operations.
- Drive the Annual Operating Plan (AOP) for funds and operating entities across
- Prime, with a continuous focus on frugality and cost efficiency.
- Monitor fund performance and collaborate with GPs on strategies to improve investor returns.
- Lead Annual Audits, Tax filing, quarterly fund valuation reviews and Fair Market Value (FMV) assessments of all portfolio companies; familiarity with benchmarking practices is essential.
- Work closely with service providers to track regulatory/tax changes, assess impact, and ensure compliance.
- Act as Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) for driving a culture of compliance and governance in daily operations.
- Serve as the relationship SPOC for LPs, bankers, Big Four firms, legal/tax advisors, and service providers in India, the US, and Mauritius.
Portfolio Operations:
- Own the post-term sheet investment process: lead legal and financial due diligence, manage transaction closure with speed and accuracy.
- Maintain a pulse on portfolio companies and monitor progress regularly; partner with GPs on financial performance, growth outlook, and business milestones.
- Support founders on capital structure, venture debt, resourcing, flips/reverse flips, and other strategic finance topics.
- Build and nurture a finance community across portfolio companies, offering guidance and peer mentoring for finance leaders.
- Collaborate with GPs on exit strategy and secondary liquidity opportunities.
Leadership, Direction & Influence:
- Lead with clarity-setting direction and standards for the broader finance function.
- Mentor and empower a high-performing finance team across fund and portfolio operations.
- Bring a firm-wide lens to key decisions, collaborating across investments, legal, and ops.
- Contribute to long-range planning, new initiatives, and firm-wide scale efforts.
What You Bring:
- 15+ years of progressive experience in finance, preferably within VC/PE firms, family offices, or investment platforms.
- Proven expertise in fund structuring, regulatory compliance (across India, US, and Mauritius), investor reporting, and capital flows.
- Strong track record of interfacing with Limited Partners, regulators, auditors, legal/tax advisors, and financial institutions.
- Strategic, commercially-minded approach with the ability to zoom in on detail when required, without being operational.
- High emotional intelligence and strong leadership presence-able to influence cross-functional teams in a lean, senior environment.
- Chartered Accountant or MBA (preferred); exposure to regulated finance environments and cross-border structures is a strong plus
