An emerging Indian agri-food brand with 30 years of export experience in basmati rice is now launching a branded basmati product to expand its presence in the domestic market. With deep sourcing roots and a strong focus on quality, the brand aims to offer premium, trusted staples to modern Indian consumers through both retail and digital channels.
Role Summary:
Lead and accelerate the domestic expansion of a premium basmati rice brand, transforming it into a nationally trusted name in the staples category. This is a pivotal leadership opportunity within a family-managed agri-food enterprise, where the mandate is to bring professional scale, structure, and brand depth while respecting the companys heritage and core values. The role involves full ownership of strategy, brand, distribution, supply chain, and financial performance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Growth Strategy: Develop and execute a go-to-market plan focused on premium and mass-premium segments across India.
2. Brand Building: Define brand identity, packaging, and storytelling aligned with consumer aspirations and health-conscious positioning.
3. Sales & Distribution: Expand reach via kirana stores, modern trade, institutional buyers, and digital/direct-to-consumer platforms.
4. Supply Chain Leadership: Build a scalable and quality-led sourcing and distribution model with strong traceability and cost controls.
5. P&L & Financial Planning: Own revenue targets, budgeting, profitability, and investor/board engagement.
6. People & Culture: Build and lead a strong, purpose-driven team across functions; nurture an agile, accountable culture.
7. Digital & D2C Strategy: Leverage CRM, performance marketing, and consumer analytics to build online presence and loyalty.
8. Promoter & Governance Alignment: Collaborate closely with the founding family to scale professionally while honouring legacy and values.
9. Compliance & Quality: Ensure adherence to regulatory, food safety, and certification standards (FSSAI, organic, etc.).
Ideal Candidate Profile
1. 15+ years of experience in FMCG, agri food, or consumer brands, including 5+ years in a full P&L or business leadership role.
2. Proven success in building or scaling food brands in staples, grains, or packaged foods.
3. Strong exposure to Indian trade networks, procurement ecosystems, and branding for semi-urban and urban consumers.
4. Prior experience in a family-run business or founder-led venture, with the ability to introduce systems while maintaining trust and alignment.
5. Exposure to startup environments, early-stage brand launches, or high-growth scale-up journeys is strongly preferred.
6. Entrepreneurial, execution-focused, and comfortable in dynamic, hands-on environments.
7. MBA or equivalent from a reputed institution with specialisation in marketing, strategy, or supply chain.
