Category Manager - Dairy & Bakery

About the Opportunity:

Our client is looking for an experienced Category Manager Dairy & Bakery to own and scale the category across assortment, pricing, sourcing, promotions and overall business performance.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in Dairy and Bakery categories, with a deep understanding of consumer behaviour, vendor management, category economics and retail/quick-commerce dynamics.

Key Responsibilities:

- Own the Dairy & Bakery category P&L, revenue and profitability.

- Develop and execute the overall category strategy and growth plan.

- Build the right product assortment based on customer demand, market trends and regional preferences.

- Identify and onboard relevant brands, manufacturers, suppliers and local vendors.

- Negotiate pricing, margins, trade terms, promotions and commercial agreements.

- Drive category growth through pricing, promotions, assortment expansion and new product launches.

- Analyse sales, margins, inventory, availability, wastage and customer behaviour to identify growth opportunities.

- Work closely with supply chain and operations teams to maintain product availability and freshness.

- Develop strategies to minimise wastage, expiry and inventory losses, particularly for perishables.

- Monitor competitor pricing, assortment, promotions and market trends.

- Build strong relationships with key suppliers and negotiate mutually beneficial partnerships.

- Track category KPIs including GMV, revenue, gross margin, contribution margin, fill rate, availability, inventory turns and wastage.

- Work cross-functionally with marketing, supply chain, operations, product and finance teams.

- Lead and mentor category team members.

What We Are Looking For:

- 6-10 years of experience in Category Management / Buying / Merchandising / Business roles.

- Strong and relevant experience specifically across Dairy & Bakery.

- Experience in e-commerce, quick commerce, modern trade, retail or FMCG.
