Role & responsibilities:
- Define and execute Buyhatke's three-year gift-card strategy across consumer, corporate, rewards, affiliate, and embedded distribution channels.
- Build a differentiated processing platform covering catalogue management, pricing, inventory, issuance, delivery, redemption status, refunds, reconciliation, settlement, and reporting.
- Sign and grow relationships with brands, retailers, aggregators, issuers, payment partners, banks, fintechs, loyalty platforms, employers, and global distributors.
- Create a reliable supply and fulfilment network with high availability, competitive commercials, clear SLAs, and scalable operational controls.
- Make Buyhatke the preferred distribution layer for gift cards through its own products and third-party channels, including APIs and white-label integrations.
- Establish the operating model for fraud prevention, transaction monitoring, KYC/KYB, chargebacks, customer support, compliance, and partner risk.
- Own the P&L, contribution margin, working capital, partner economics, pricing, and investment decisions for the business.
- Build a high-performing team across business development, product, engineering, operations, risk, finance, and customer experience.
- Lead international expansion market by market, beginning with the most attractive corridors, use cases, and regulatory environments.
Three-Year Outcomes:
The exact targets will be finalized with the CEO during the first 30 days. The role will be measured against a balanced scorecard such as:
- Market position: Become a category leader in India and a credible global processing platform.
- Scale: Reach a large, repeatable annual processed value with strong month-on-month growth.
- Network: Build deep coverage across priority brands, categories, channels, and geographies.
- Reliability: Deliver industry-leading authorization, fulfilment, delivery, reconciliation, and support SLAs.
- Economics: Build durable contribution margins with disciplined partner and channel economics.
- Distribution: Power Buyhatke, enterprise clients, rewards programs, affiliates, and embedded partners.
- Trust: Maintain strong fraud loss, chargeback, compliance, and customer-resolution metrics.
- Team: Build the leadership bench and operating cadence required for global scale.
First Year Plan:
1. First 30 days: Diagnose and Choose:
- Audit current gift-card revenue, margins, suppliers, product flows, technology, contracts, risks, and customer pain points.
- Map the market, competitors, white spaces, priority categories, and highest-value distribution channels.
- Produce a board-ready strategy with a clear wedge, target customer segments, business model, investment needs, and quarterly milestones.
2. Days 31-90: Build the Foundation:
- Close the highest-value supply and distribution partnerships.
- Define the target processing architecture, partner APIs, operational controls, and data model.
- Launch a single operating dashboard for processed value, revenue, margin, fulfilment, fraud, refunds, support, and partner performance.
- Hire the first critical team members and establish weekly business reviews.
3. Months 4-12: Prove Repeatable Scale:
- Deliver a materially stronger gift-card product and partner experience.
- Launch repeatable B2B and embedded distribution motions.
- Improve availability, fulfilment speed, reconciliation accuracy, and resolution times.
- Prove healthy unit economics in the initial segments before committing to international expansion.
- Present a validated Year 2 and Year 3 expansion plan with quantified market and investment priorities.
Preferred candidate profile:
- 10+ years of experience in gift cards, payments, fintech, ecommerce, loyalty, rewards, marketplaces, or a closely related business.
- Demonstrated ownership of a scaled P&L, transaction business, platform, or major revenue line.
- Strong record of building partnerships with brands, issuers, aggregators, banks, fintechs, enterprises, or distribution platforms.
- Comfortable operating across strategy and execution: negotiating a contract in the morning, reviewing a product funnel in the afternoon, and resolving an operational incident when required.
- Deep understanding of transaction economics, settlement, reconciliation, fraud, chargebacks, refunds, compliance, and working capital.
- Experience launching or scaling APIs, platform products, B2B2C distribution, or embedded commerce is highly valuable.
- International experience or a strong understanding of cross-border payments and market entry is preferred.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication, structured thinking, commercial judgement, and bias for action.
- Entrepreneurial energy: willing to build the function, recruit the team, and create operating processes from first principles.
