
JOB ROLE- BUYER (All Categories, majorly should have handles FMCG, Bakery, Dairy & Frozen)
Reports to: SENIOR MANAGER- BUYING & MERCHANDISING
Purpose of Role
The Buyer for the Foods category is responsible for sourcing, selecting, and managing a diverse range of food products (majorly should have handles FMCG, Bakery, Dairy & Frozen) to maximize sales, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Category Strategy & Planning
- Develop and execute buying strategies for Food categories.
- Analyze market trends, competitor activity, and customer preferences to optimize assortment.
Vendor Management
- Identify, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers to secure best pricing, quality, and terms.
- Build strong supplier relationships to ensure consistent supply and innovation.
Assortment & Product Selection
- Curate product ranges that balance value, quality, and innovation.
- Ensure seasonal and promotional products are planned and delivered on time.
Financial Management
- Achieve sales, margin, and inventory turnover targets.
- Monitor category performance and take corrective actions when required.
Inventory & Supply Chain Coordination
- Work closely with logistics and planning teams to maintain optimal stock levels.
- Minimize out-of-stocks and overstocks through effective forecasting.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with marketing for promotions, campaigns, and in-store displays.
- Collaborate with store operations to ensure product availability and visibility.
Compliance & Standards
- Ensure all products meet company quality standards and regulatory requirements.
- Adhere to ethical sourcing and sustainability guidelines.
Skills & Attributes
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills
- Analytical ability with proficiency in Excel and retail systems
- Commercial acumen and understanding of retail KPIs
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with operational execution
