Job Title: BU Head - Prescription Business

Location: Chennai

Department: Business Unit / Sales & Marketing

Reports To: CEO

Job Description

The BU Head - Prescription Business will be responsible for leading, strategizing, and driving the overall growth of the prescription portfolio. This role includes P&L ownership, business expansion, team leadership, and ensuring strong execution of sales & marketing strategies across the region. The ideal candidate should possess deep understanding of the pharmaceutical/medical industry, strong commercial acumen, and proven experience in managing prescription-driven businesses.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Business Strategy & P&L Management:

- Develop and implement the business strategy for the Prescription Business Unit.

- Own and drive revenue targets, profitability, and market share growth.

- Identify new business opportunities, therapy areas, and expansion plans.

- Monitor market trends, competitive landscape, and industry insights to support strategic decisions.

2. Sales Leadership:

- Lead, manage and mentor the sales team across regions.

- Drive performance through clear KPIs, operational discipline, and execution excellence.

- Ensure effective territory coverage, doctor engagement, and prescription generation.

- Collaborate with regional managers to achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets.

3. Marketing & Product Management:

- Work closely with the marketing team to design and implement brand strategies.

- Drive medical marketing initiatives, CME programs, and scientific engagement.

- Oversee product lifecycle management including new product launches.

- Ensure strong brand positioning in target therapy areas.

4. Cross-Functional Collaboration:

- Coordinate with supply chain, finance, regulatory, and medical affairs teams for smooth business operations.

- Ensure adequate inventory planning, forecasting, and demand management.

5. Stakeholder Management:

- Build strong relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), healthcare professionals, distributors, and channel partners.

- Represent the BU in internal meetings and external events.

6. People Management:

- Recruit, train, and develop a high-performing field force and regional leads.

- Drive a culture of accountability, performance, and continuous improvement.

- Conduct regular performance reviews and capability-building initiatives.

Key Requirements:

- Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy, Science, or related field; MBA preferred.

- 18-30 years of experience in pharmaceutical sales/marketing, with at least in a BU Head/Regional Head/Business Lead role.

- Strong understanding of prescription business dynamics, doctor engagement, hospital/clinic channels, and therapy-specific strategies.

- Proven P&L leadership and team management experience.

- Excellent communication, analytical, and decision-making skills.

- Willingness to travel as required.
