We are looking for the Business Head - Conductors for our client, which is a leading listed manufacturing company in the power transmission and electrical industry.
The Business Unit Head - Conductors will be responsible for leading and managing the Conductors Business Unit as an independent profit centre.
The role involves full P&L accountability, strategic planning, manufacturing excellence, business development, and team leadership for aluminium and copper conductors, power cables, and other specialty products. The incumbent will drive revenue growth, profitability, operational efficiency, and market leadership across domestic and international markets.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategy & Business Leadership
- Develop and execute a strategic business plan for the Conductors Unit to achieve growth, profitability, and market share objectives.
- Drive end-to-end business performance including production, sales, marketing, quality, and supply chain.
- Identify new market opportunities in Power, Transmission & Distribution, Railways, Renewable Energy, and EPC sectors.
- Formulate business strategies for domestic and export markets with a focus on high-value, technology-driven conductor products.
2. Sales, Marketing & Business Development
- Lead sales and marketing operations for the conductor product portfolio.
- Develop key relationships with utilities, EPC contractors, and government clients.
- Drive participation in large-scale tenders and institutional projects (PowerGrid, Railways, Metro, Solar, etc.).
- Strengthen domestic distribution and explore international markets through distributors and direct export channels.
- Enhance brand visibility and positioning for the conductor business line.
3. Manufacturing & Operations
- Oversee production facilities and ensure optimum capacity utilisation and productivity.
- Implement best practices in manufacturing - Lean, TPM, and Industry 4.0 technologies.
- Drive process improvement, yield enhancement, and cost reduction initiatives.
- Ensure adherence to ISO, BIS, IEC, ASTM, and other international quality standards.
- Plan and execute expansion, modernization, or new line installation projects in coordination with the operations team.
4. Product Development & Quality
- Collaborate with R&D for developing and commercializing new conductor types such as AAC, ACSR, AAAC, HTLS, OPGW, and fire-resistant variants.
- Oversee product testing, certification, and approvals with national and international agencies.
- Ensure continuous improvement in quality, reliability, and performance.
5. Supply Chain & Cost Management
- Strategically manage procurement of critical raw materials (aluminium, copper, steel core, polymers) to ensure cost competitiveness.
- Develop supplier partnerships for long-term material security and quality assurance.
- Monitor working capital, inventory, and logistics to optimize overall supply chain performance.
6. Financial Management
- Own the full P&L responsibility of the Conductors BU.
- Prepare annual business budgets, forecast financial performance, and ensure delivery on revenue and profitability goals.
- Drive EBITDA improvement through efficient cost structures and pricing strategies.
- Report performance to senior management through structured MIS and review systems.
7. Team Leadership & People Development
- Build, mentor, and lead a multidisciplinary team across production, sales, quality, and SCM.
- Create a high-performance culture focused on accountability, collaboration, and innovation.
- Implement effective training, development, and succession planning within the BU.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
B.E./B.Tech in Electrical / Mechanical / Metallurgy / Industrial Engineering (mandatory)
MBA / PGDM in Marketing, Operations, or Strategy (preferred)
Experience:
18-25 years of experience in the wire & cable / conductors / power transmission industry.
Minimum 8 years in a senior leadership role with P&L accountability for a manufacturing or business unit.
Strong exposure to conductor manufacturing (AAC, ACSR, HTLS, AAAC, OPGW) and large project business.
