Business Head / CEO - Bio-CNG (Compressed Biogas)

We are seeking a senior leader to build and scale a high-growth Bio-CNG (CBG) platform in India's expanding waste-to-energy ecosystem, aligned with the Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation (SATAT) programme. The role carries full P&L responsibility and will drive the strategy, development, and commercialisation of the Bio-CNG business.

The mandate is business-development led, focused on originating and securing large-scale CBG opportunities across agricultural residues, municipal solid waste, and industrial organic waste streams. The leader will build strategic partnerships with feedstock suppliers, municipalities, EPC partners, technology providers, and gas off-takers, while developing a scalable project pipeline.

Responsibilities include project origination, financial structuring, investment evaluation, EPC oversight, commissioning, and operational scale-up of Bio-CNG assets, along with policy engagement and long-term off-take partnerships with city gas distributors, oil marketing companies, and industrial consumers.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Leadership & P&L Ownership:

- Define and execute the long-term vision, strategy, and growth roadmap for the Bio-CNG business

- Own full P&L, including revenue growth, cost optimisation, and capital allocation

- Build a scalable and sustainable business model across multiple geographies

2. Business Development & Project Origination:

Lead origination of large-scale Bio-CNG opportunities across:

- Agricultural residues

- Municipal solid waste (MSW)

- Industrial organic waste streams

- Develop and manage a robust pipeline of projects across India

- Identify and secure long-term feedstock supply agreements

3. Partnerships & Ecosystem Building:

Establish strategic partnerships with:

- Feedstock suppliers and aggregators

- Municipal corporations and government bodies

- EPC contractors and technology providers

- Gas off-takers (OMCs, CGD companies, industrial consumers)

- Lead negotiations and structure long-term commercial agreements

4. Project Development & Execution:

Oversee end-to-end project lifecycle:

- Feasibility assessment and site selection

- Financial modelling and investment evaluation

- Project financing and capital structuring

- EPC selection and contract management

- Construction, commissioning, and ramp-up

- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet performance benchmarks

5. Operations & Scale-Up:

- Drive operational excellence across plants

- Optimize feedstock logistics, plant efficiency, and output quality

- Implement scalable processes, systems, and performance metrics

6. Policy & Regulatory Engagement

- Engage with central and state government stakeholders on policy matters

- Leverage incentives under SATAT and other renewable energy schemes

- Ensure regulatory compliance and proactive risk management

Key Qualifications:

- Engineering degree (Chemical, Mechanical, Energy, Environmental) with MBA or equivalent business qualification preferred.

- 15-20+ years of experience in bioenergy, renewable fuels, natural gas infrastructure, or waste-to-energy sectors.

- Demonstrated track record in project development, financing, and commissioning of biogas/ CBG plants.

- Strong expertise in anaerobic digestion, gas upgrading, feedstock logistics, and plant economics.

- Established relationships with OMCs, CGD companies, EPC firms, and renewable energy stakeholders.

- Experience engaging with government policy frameworks and sustainability programs related to biofuels and clean energy.
