Position: Business Head - Agri Commodities Exports
Reporting To: CEO/Founders
Job Summary: The Business Head for Agri Commodities Exports will be a critical leader in our startup, responsible for defining and executing the export strategy, establishing strong international relationships, and building the entire export division. This role demands a deep understanding of the Agri commodity market, international trade, and a strong entrepreneurial spirit to navigate the challenges and opportunities of a fast-growing startup.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & P&L Management:
- Full ownership of the export division's P&L, including budgeting, forecasting, and achieving revenue and profitability goals.
- Identify and evaluate new market opportunities, product categories, and geographical expansions for Indian Agri commodities.
- Conduct thorough market research and competitor analysis to identify competitive advantages and inform strategic decisions.
Business Development & Sales:
- Lead the entire sales cycle, from lead generation and negotiation to contract finalization and post-sales support.
- Develop and implement effective pricing strategies, payment terms, and trade finance solutions.
- Participate in international trade fairs, industry events, and buyer-seller meets to promote our products and expand networks.
Operations & Supply Chain Management:
- Collaborate closely with internal procurement, quality, and logistics teams to ensure seamless execution.
- Implement robust quality assurance processes to meet international standards and buyer specifications (e.g., Phytosanitary certificates, NPOP for organic products, FSSAI compliance).
- Manage export documentation, customs clearance, and adherence to all international trade regulations and compliance requirements (e.g., IEC, APEDA, GSP).
Team Building & Leadership:
- Foster a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement within the team.
- Set clear performance objectives and provide regular feedback and coaching.
Risk Management:
- Explore and implement appropriate risk mitigation strategies, including trade credit insurance (e.g., ECGC).
Qualifications:
- Education: Master's/Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, International Trade, Agri-Business Management, or a related field. An MBA or a Master's degree in a relevant discipline is a strong plus.
- Experience:
- At least 3-5 years in a leadership role (e.g., Business Head, Exports Head, Country Head) with P&L responsibility.
- Ideally an experience working with a startup or in a high-growth environment is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in establishing new export markets and building international client relationships.
- Skills:
- International Trade Expertise: In-depth knowledge of international trade laws, regulations, Incoterms, customs procedures, and export documentation specific to Agri commodities.
- Negotiation & Communication: Exceptional negotiation, persuasion, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with diverse stakeholders globally.
- Leadership & Team Management: Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of financial statements, budgeting, forecasting, and risk management.
- Market Research & Analysis: Proficiency in conducting market research, identifying market gaps, and evaluating competitive landscapes.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to navigate complex international trade challenges.
- Adaptability & Resilience: Ability to thrive in a dynamic, uncertain startup environment and adapt to changing market conditions.
- Technological Proficiency: Familiarity with ERP systems, data analysis tools, and relevant digital platforms for trade.
- Fluency in English is essential. Knowledge of other international languages (e.g., French, German, Arabic, Chinese, Spanish) is a significant advantage.
