About Kare Counselling

Kare Counselling is a Mumbai-based mental health practice combining internationally trained clinical expertise with a deep understanding of the South Asian cultural context. Founded by Kareena Mehta (Ed.M., M.A., Columbia University), the practice offers individual, couples, and family therapy through in-person sessions in Nariman Point and virtual services across India and the global diaspora.

Our Vision

Kare is evolving beyond a traditional therapy practice into a comprehensive mental wellness ecosystem. Our broader platform includes Kare Collective-a product and community arm focused on clinician-designed tools such as books, therapeutic board games, and guided journals that extend mental health support into everyday life.

Growth & Stage

- 59% growth over the past 10 months

- Bootstrapped (no external funding)

- Currently expanding the team to support the next phase of scale

About Role

This is not a traditional business development role. You will be the first non-clinical senior hire at Kare - the person who builds the commercial and financial infrastructure that allows everything else to scale.

You will own two things simultaneously: the revenue growth of Kare Collective (products, distribution, partnerships, corporate) and the financial health of the overall Kare Counselling practice (bookkeeping, payroll, reporting, forecasting). You report directly to the founder and work closely with the Clinical Director and Kare Collective Director.

The right person for this role is excited to build from scratch, is comfortable with ambiguity, cares genuinely about mental health, and has the commercial instincts of a startup operator combined with the financial rigour of a trained analyst.

What You'll Own

1. Kare Collective - Revenue & Distribution

- Own end-to-end revenue targets for all Kare Collective products (book, journal, board games, bundles)

- Build and manage a multi-channel sales engine: D2C (karecounselling.com), Amazon, Flipkart, and offline retail

- Lead Crossword, Kitab Khana, and indie bookstore relationships - from first conversation to shelf placement

- Drive corporate gifting and bulk order strategy (HR/L&D, Diwali, wellness programmes)

- Identify, negotiate, and onboard distribution partners, retail chains, and institutional buyers

- Continuously track and improve unit economics: CAC, LTV, contribution margins, channel profitability

- Experiment with growth levers - bundling, limited editions, subscription, gifting tiers

2. Corporate & Institutional Partnerships

- Build and close corporate wellness partnerships - Employee Assistance Programmes (EAPs), L&D workshops, retainer clients

- Target: Bain, Dimexon, hospitals, schools, universities, NGOs, and startup wellness budgets

- Design bulk sales strategies that integrate therapy sessions + Kare Collective products into single packages

- Lead on-ground activations, launch events, and community engagement initiatives

- Represent Kare in B2B conversations with professionalism and brand alignment

3. Finance & Operations - Kare Counselling Practice

- Manage day-to-day financial operations: invoicing, UPI reconciliation, therapist payroll, vendor payments

- Maintain accurate monthly P&L for both Kare Counselling and Kare Collective

- Build and own financial models: revenue forecasting, scenario planning, cash flow, and growth projections

- Analyse channel-wise and therapist-wise profitability - and surface insights to the founder monthly

- Manage GST compliance, basic bookkeeping, and CA coordination

- Evaluate and improve unit economics across all revenue lines: therapy sessions, products, corporate, supervision

4. Digital & E-Commerce

- Lead setup, launch, and scaling of marketplace channels and D2C website store

- Optimise product listings, pricing, and conversion - working with Rirev Consulting (our social media agency)

- Partner with marketing to drive performance campaigns and improve ROAS and acquisition efficiency

- Use data to improve customer journeys, repeat purchase rates, and product discovery

5. Strategy & Founder Support

- Work directly with Kareena to shape Kare's commercial and financial strategy

- Build processes and systems that transition Kare from founder-led to scalable - without losing the brand's soul

- Contribute to investor materials, partner decks, and board-level reporting as Kare grows

- Be a thought partner, not just an executor - your perspective on what to build next will be genuinely valued

Who We're Looking For

Experience & Skills

- 2-5 years in business development, category management, growth, or finance roles - ideally at a startup or consumer brand

- MBA from a top-tier institution strongly preferred (IIM, ISB, or equivalent)

- Comfortable owning a P&L - you know what contribution margin means and you care about it

- Strong at financial modelling: you can build a revenue forecast and a unit economics model in Excel without being prompted

- Experience with e-commerce platforms (Amazon Seller Central, Shopify, or similar) is a strong plus

- Comfortable working with ambiguity, building from scratch, and wearing multiple hats

- Excellent communicator - you can write a sharp email, run a corporate meeting, and negotiate a distribution deal

Character & Culture Fit:

- You care about mental health - not as a buzzword but genuinely. You understand why this work matters.

- You are excited by the idea of building India's first South Asian-informed mental wellness brand, not just filling a role

- You are proactive, self-directed, and not afraid to say when something isn't working

- You are comfortable being the only non-clinician in many rooms - and you bring something different and complementary to it

- You want to grow with the company, not just through it

What Kare Offers

- A front-row seat to building something genuinely new in the Indian mental health space

- Direct access to and mentorship from the founder - this is not a siloed role

- Real Ownership - you will have P&L accountability and the autonomy to build the function your way

- A values-driven, LGBTQ-allied, and psychologically safe workplace

- Hybrid flexibility - primarily Nariman Point, with flexibility for remote work where the role allows

- The chance to grow into a senior leadership role as Kare scales to a group practice and full product ecosystem
