Business Consultant 2D Barcode & API Integration

Role Overview

We are looking for a Business Consultant with strong techno-functional expertise to support the design and implementation of a harmonized 2D barcode solution across business units.

The role involves close collaboration with business stakeholders, IT Product Owners, and technical teams to define standards, data models, and API-driven integrations.

This is a high-impact role requiring independent ownership, strong analytical thinking, and excellent stakeholder management skills.

Key Responsibilities

General Responsibilities

- Analyze complex business and IT scenarios related to barcode harmonization and identify optimization opportunities.

- Support IT Product Owners in defining and validating technical solution approaches for barcode integration.

- Create detailed functional and technical specifications for a unified cross-business-unit 2D barcode.

- Independently plan, organize, and facilitate meetings and workshops with internal and external stakeholders.

- Act as a bridge between business, product, and technology teams.

Specific Work Packages

Harmonized 2D Barcode Design & Specification

- Conduct stakeholder interviews across multiple divisions to gather business requirements and operational constraints.

- Identify and define all required data fields to be embedded in the 2D barcode.

- Align stakeholders on a common data standard across business units.

- Create the end-to-end technical specification for a unified 2D barcode, including:

- Encoding rules

- Interoperability requirements

- Resilience and fallback scenarios

- Design an interim label concept enabling coexistence of current and future barcode standards.

- Collaborate with technical teams to ensure feasibility and integration into existing label generation and printing APIs.

Data Model & API Integration

- Define and document the data model for shipment-related information exchange supporting barcode functionality.

- Create epics and user stories aligned with agile delivery practices.

- Ensure solutions comply with enterprise architecture, security, and governance standards.

- Support implementation teams during development and integration phases.

Required Skills & Experience

Technical & Functional Skills

- Strong understanding of 2D barcode design, data encoding, and label creation.

- Hands-on experience with API-based integrations (REST APIs preferred).

- Experience defining data models and functional specifications.

- Familiarity with enterprise IT landscapes and system integration concepts.

Soft Skills

- Excellent English communication (verbal and written).

- Strong stakeholder management and workshop facilitation skills.

- Ability to work independently, manage multiple stakeholders, and drive outcomes.

- Structured, analytical, and detail-oriented approach.

Nice to Have

- Experience working in logistics, supply chain, or shipment systems.

- Exposure to barcode harmonization or global labeling standards.

- Prior experience in consulting or large enterprise transformation programs
