Chief of Staff to the Chief Development Officer
Bharat Biotech International Limited & Group of Companies
Designation: Assistant Manager/Manager - Chief of Staff to the CDO
Reports To: Chief Development Officer (direct reporting)
Location: Hyderabad (with domestic and international travel as required)
Scope: Group-wide Bharat Biotech and all Group companies
Role Summary:
The Chief of Staff acts as an extension of the Chief Development Officer (CDO), enabling faster and better-informed decision-making across Bharat Biotech and all Group companies. The incumbent will drive business development support, strategic program management, investment evaluation, and enterprise transformation initiatives, while owning the governance and follow-through layer that converts leadership decisions into completed action. The role demands exceptional ownership, analytical rigour, discretion, and the ability to influence senior stakeholders without direct authority.
Key Result Areas:
- Business Development: Support partner identification, opportunity screening, and in-/out-licensing pipeline management. Prepare business cases, market assessments, and pricing analyses. Track the deal pipeline end-to-end and coordinate CDAs, term sheets, and partner correspondence with BD, Legal, and Finance.
- Strategic Program Management: Own the portfolio of strategic programs across Group entities. Build and maintain integrated plans, Gantt charts, milestones, risk registers, and dashboards. Chair and record cross-functional reviews, publish minutes, and maintain a single action-tracker with named owners and dates.
- Strategic Investments: Conduct first-pass diligence on investment, acquisition, and partnership proposals. Build and review valuation and financial models (DCF, NPV, comparables), prepare Investment Committee packs, and coordinate advisors, bankers, and counterparties through to closure.
- Change Management: Drive adoption of new structures, systems, and ways of working across entities. Prepare stakeholder engagement and communication plans, monitor adoption, and resolve resistance points at the working level.
- Transformation: Lead cost, productivity, digitalisation, and AI-enablement initiatives. Support process redesign, ERP and digital tool rollouts, and the deployment of AI-based tracking, reporting, and meeting-documentation solutions across the CDO's remit.
- Decision Follow-Through & Governance: Maintain a single system of record for every decision and commitment made by the CDO. Proactively track approvals, CAPEX releases, payments, and deliverables through to completion, escalating slippage early so the CDO does not have to chase status.
- Leadership Cadence & Executive Governance: Manage the CDO's operating rhythm: set agendas, secure quorum and pre-reads, and ensure review meetings are decision-ready. Prepare leadership presentations, MIS, and board/committee material. Triage the approval queue and prepare recommendation notes so only decision-worthy items reach the CDO.
- Stakeholder & Partner Interface: Serve as a reliable point of contact for global health partners, funding agencies, investors, consultants, and Group stakeholders. Coordinate visits, follow-ups, and commitments, and ensure timely, professional responses on the CDO's behalf.
Qualification:
MBA from a premier business school (IIMs, ISB, or equivalent). An underlying degree in Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Medicine, or Engineering is strongly preferred. Certification in Project Management, Change Management, or Financial Modelling is an added advantage.
Experience:
- 2-4 years of relevant experience in management consulting, investment banking, corporate strategy, PMO, business development, or a chief-of-staff / strategic initiatives role.
- Exposure to biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, or life sciences is preferred. Experience working directly with CXO-level leadership is highly desirable.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong financial, analytical, and problem-solving ability; comfort with valuation models and business cases.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; able to produce board-quality decks and concise executive notes.
- Proven ability to drive closure through influence across senior, cross-functional and multi-entity stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of project management methodologies and tools; high fluency with Excel, PowerPoint, and AI-enabled productivity tools.
- Exceptional organisation, ownership, and attention to detail; thrives in ambiguity and at pace.
- Absolute discretion and integrity in handling confidential commercial, financial, and people matters.
