



What You'll Do
Avalara is scaling a modern, AI-enabled go-to-market engine - and the Marketing Analytics & Insights (MAI) team sits at the center of this transformation. As a Senior Data Scientist, you will help shape predictive intelligence and experimentation strategy across the full marketing and revenue funnel.
You will:
- Build predictive and forecasting models for pipeline, conversion, and ROI
- Develop uplift / lead scoring, early funnel signal detection, and velocity models
- Design and scale experimentation frameworks (A/B, causal inference)
- Apply AI and large-language-model techniques to accelerate insights delivery
- Translate analytics into strategic recommendations for marketing leaders
- Partner with the Global Analytics & Insights (GAI) team on model design, deployment, MLOps, and shared data standards
- This is a hands-on, high-visibility role. You will operate as a strategic builder, shaping the analytics and AI foundation that fuels Avalara's future GTM performance. You will report to the Director, Marketing Analytics.
What Your Responsibilities Will Be
- Build and deploy statistical & machine learning models to predict and optimize marketing performance
- Lead experimentation design, causal analysis, and incrementality measurement
- Partner cross-functionally with Marketing Ops, Revenue Marketing, and GAI
- Operationalize AI-driven analytics and automated insight workflows
- Mentor analysts on advanced analytics and experimentation frameworks
- Establish repeatable data science methods, governance, and documentation
- Communicate results clearly to executive stakeholders
What You'll Need To Be Successful
- 5+ years in data science, ideally within SaaS, marketing analytics, growth, or revenue intelligence.
Strong experience in:
- Forecasting + time-series modeling
- Regression, uplift / causal inference
- Experimentation / A/B frameworks
- Advanced Python (preferred) or R + strong SQL proficiency
- Translate complex models into crisp, executive-ready insights
- Demonstrated ability to operate independently and build new capabilities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in B2B SaaS marketing or revenue analytics
- Familiarity with attribution modeling (MTA, MMM)
- Knowledge of Snowflake, dbt, Hex, and modern data stack environments
- Experience supporting go-to-market or growth analytics functions
- Exposure to LLM / AI techniques for automation or insight generation
- Prior experience as a founding / early data scientist in a high-growth company.
