Supv, Accounting & Operations - Assurant, GCC-India
This role supervises day-to-day accounting operations with a strong focus on accuracy, controls, and operational excellence, while facilitating the enablement of AI technologies to enhance financial processes. The Supervisor, Accounting leads execution at the team level, ensures compliance with accounting policies and internal controls, and supports continuous improvement through practical use of data, analytics, and AI-enabled tools. The role applies accounting judgment and operational discipline while partnering with leaders on process and system changes.
This position will be in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Gurgaon & Chennai at our India location.
What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?
Accounting Operations & Controls (35%):
- Supervise day-to-day accounting activities, ensure accurate and timely client and cross-sold reinsurance monthly/quarterly financials in accordance with GAAP and STAT guidance.
- Review and approval monthly client statements, journal vouchers, and reconciliations.
- Supervise team in successful onboard of new, amended and terminated reinsurance agreements.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP/STAT, internal controls, SOX requirements, and company policies.
- Support internal and external audits and maintain required documentation.
- Escalate issues, risks, and variances with clear analysis and recommendations.
Continuous Process Improvement (40%):
- Identify and recommend enhancements to existing accounting processes (i.e. inefficiencies, errors, control gaps) by incorporating AI technologies to mitigate risk, streamline workflows and reduce manual effort.
- Leverage AI-enabled tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Alteryx or similar) to:
1. Improve efficiency in analysis, reconciliations, and documentation.
2. Support root-cause analysis and issue resolution.
3. Explain variances and trends.
4. Enhance process documentation, controls narratives, and training materials.
- Partner with Manager and collaborate across teams to implement AI-driven solutions for automating routing accounting tasks, such as data entry, reconciliation and transaction categorization.
- Design, document, and maintain end-to-end accounting workflows.
Accounting Systems & Data Enablement (15%):
- Utilize financial systems and reporting tools to support accurate accounting and reconciliations.
- Participate in testing and validation of system or process changes impacting accounting.
- Ensure system outputs and data are reliable for accounting purposes.
Team Leadership & Development (10%):
- Provide day-to-day supervision, coaching, and guidance to accounting staff.
- Assign work, set priorities, and ensure deadlines are met.
- Support onboarding, training, and skill development.
- Reinforce accountability, quality standards, and continuous improvement mindset.
What are the requirements needed for this position?
- Bachelors/Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of progressive accounting experience and experience in a lead or supervisory capacity.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP/STAT, accounting close processes, and internal controls.
- Experience reviewing reconciliations and financial data for accuracy.
- Expertise using Alteryx and designing workflows.
- Improve process efficiency (analysis, documentation, reporting).
- Support root-cause analysis and issue resolution.
- Comfort leveraging data analysis tools (e.g., advanced Excel, Power Query, Alteryx, or similar) to analyze variances, trends, reconciliations, and process performance.
- Enhance process documentation, controls narratives, or training materials.
- Experience working with ERP and financial reporting systems.
- Strong attention to detail, judgment, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively under deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to apply analytical thinking while maintaining strong accounting judgment and control awareness.
