Role Overview:
The Associate in the Global Markets Controls Office (First Line of Defence) plays a critical role in ensuring the effectiveness of the control environment within the Global Markets division. This role involves working closely with trading desks, technology teams, and other control functions to identify, assess, and mitigate operational risks. The Associate will contribute to the design and implementation of controls, monitor their effectiveness, and support the business in maintaining a robust risk management framework. This position directly impacts the firm's ability to operate safely and efficiently within regulatory guidelines and internal policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct risk assessments of key business processes within Global Markets to identify potential control gaps and weaknesses.
- Support the design and implementation of new controls or enhancements to existing controls to mitigate identified risks.
- Monitor the effectiveness of implemented controls through ongoing testing and analysis to ensure they are operating as intended.
- Investigate and document operational incidents, including root cause analysis and remediation plans, to prevent recurrence.
- Collaborate with technology teams to ensure that systems and data are managed in accordance with control requirements.
- Prepare and present reports on control performance and risk trends to management to inform decision-making.
- Assist in the development and delivery of training programs on control-related topics to enhance employee awareness and understanding.
- Participate in regulatory examinations and internal audits to provide information and support the assessment of the control environment.
Required Skillset:
- Demonstrated ability to identify, assess, and mitigate operational risks within a financial services environment.
- Strong understanding of financial markets products and trading processes.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and identify trends.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
- Experience with risk management frameworks and control testing methodologies.
