Role Purpose
- The Strategy & Strategy Management Group (SMG) is a newly revitalized corporate function responsible for driving group-wide strategic direction, business planning, portfolio optimization, and enterprise-wide risk management.
- The Director - Strategy will lead one of the Centers of Excellence (CoE) within SMG-focused either on Airports or Diversified Sectors (Energy, Infra, Urban Infra, Sports, and New Businesses)-and play a critical role in shaping long-term business growth, identifying adjacencies, exploring new business opportunities, and enhancing enterprise value across the Group portfolio.
- This role is positioned as a strategic advisor and business partner to business CEOs, driving value creation through rigorous analysis, strategic frameworks, and actionable insights.
Key Responsibilities
1. Business Strategy & Growth Planning
- Develop long-range vision and strategic roadmap aligned to the Group's growth aspiration-from current - 1.3 lakh crores to - 5 lakh crores valuation in 3-5 years.
- Partner with business leadership to define strategic priorities, identify growth adjacencies, and evaluate entry into new and sunrise sectors (e.g., data centers, financial services, technology ventures).
- Lead business case development, scenario modeling, and strategic feasibility studies for expansion opportunities.
- Drive alignment of strategic initiatives across sectors ensuring consistency with overall group objectives.
2. Business Planning & Performance Management
- Oversee Annual Operating Plan (AOP) formulation and integration with long-term plans.
- Implement performance tracking mechanisms and rolling forecasts, linking operational metrics with financial outcomes.
- Partner with FP&A and finance teams to ensure strategic and financial plans are coherent, data-driven, and deliver measurable outcomes.
3. Portfolio Strategy & M&A
- Assess the current business portfolio to identify value creation levers-organic and inorganic.
- Support portfolio rationalization, divestiture, and restructuring decisions to optimize capital allocation and enterprise value.
- Lead due diligence and post-merger integration for acquisitions, working closely with business and finance teams.
4. Enterprise Risk Management
- Collaborate with the Head of ERM to embed enterprise-wide risk identification and mitigation practices into strategic planning.
- Ensure risk considerations are integrated into business and investment decisions.
5. Strategic Projects & Transformation
- Provide strategic oversight and governance to high-impact projects ensuring alignment with long-term objectives.
- Partner with Transformation, Digital, and PMO teams to ensure execution excellence, timely delivery, and value realization.
6. Stakeholder Management & Influence
- Work cross-functionally with CEOs, CFOs, and Strategy Heads across businesses to build consensus and drive decision-making.
- Present insights and strategic recommendations to the Corporate Chairman and Executive Leadership Team.
- Serve as a thought partner, influencing without direct authority in a matrix organization.
Experience & Background
- Consulting Experience: Minimum 10 years (mandatory)
- Prior experience in top-tier consulting firms (McKinsey, BCG, Bain, EY-Parthenon, KPMG, Deloitte, TSMG, etc.) or corporate strategy roles within large conglomerates.
- Exposure to one or more of the following sectors preferred: Airports, Energy, Infrastructure, Urban Development, Transportation, Financial Services, or New-Age Businesses.
- Proven expertise in applying structured problem-solving frameworks (e.g., Porter's Five Forces, SWOT, Growth-Share Matrix, Value Chain Analysis).
- Experience in M&A strategy, portfolio optimization, and business valuation preferred.
Education
- MBA/PGDM from a premier business school (IIMs, ISB, XLRI, FMS, etc.) Engineering, Economics, or Finance background preferred for analytical rigor.
